  • Notes
    • Suicide of Charles Feick - It would seem as if the loss of the reins on the old Preston and Berlin stage was too much for poor Charlie Feick. It is but a short time since he left the road yet now he is dead, and died by his own hand. Last week he took Paris green, and though lingering for a day or two, died. Many will recollect stormy trips with poor Charlie, and the unswerving good temper, with which he overcome all obstacles and encountered exposure. In those days Charlie's stage was "bound to go through" and it did go through, though delay would have been pardonable. But the poor fellow knew how to drive the stage, take care of his horses, the mails and his passengers, and discharged his duty faithfully and well.1a
