  • Notes
    • F. G. Gardiner, Dominion Pianos and Organs, King Street East - The above-mentioned gentleman has been established in business in Berlin for the past three years as agent for Waterloo County for the celebrated Dominion Pianos and Organs, and since starting in business here he has met with pronounced success. It requires very little to be said in favor of these instruments; they are well and favorably known throughout the entire Dominion. The works of the Company are located in Bowmanville, and are the largest and most complete of their kind in the country. During the past two years the demand for the Dominion organs has more than doubled, and they are now to be found in England, Australia, West Indies, South America, Germany, Russia, and almost every civilized country on the face of the globe. At the Centennial Exhibition in Philadelphia in 1876, it was the only Canadian organ receiving an international medal and diploma of honor. This they received against 40 other competitors, the points of excellence being "a pure and satisfying tone, simple and efficient stop action, an elastic touch, and good general workmanship." Mr. Gardiner has an agency of which he may well be proud, for the instruments speak for themselves if the record of the manufacturers is not sufficient. The warerooms he occupies on King Street East are 20x50 feet in dimensions and two stories in height. He gives employment to three assistants, and has two teams in use in his business. He is a native of Canada, an active and enterprising business man, liberal in his dealings and straightforward in all his transactions. He was Town Councillor in Mount Forest, where he resided previous to coming to Berlin.1a
