Born at North Easthope, Perth, Ontario on January 5, 1884 and educated there. He was unmarried. He was killed in action December 5, 1916 at Villiers-en-Bois, France. He was struck by a shell in the abdomen. Mrs. Clara Spahr, New Hamburg, is his mother. Florence P. Bradley, New Hamburg.1a

    • PTE. J. SPOHR (SPAHR) KILLED - It has been officially reported that Pte. John Edward Spohr was killed in action on December 5. He enlisted last March with a Fort William unit, and went overseas in July. He was slightly wounded last October, and his death occurred shortly after his return to the trenches. Pte. Spohr was 32 years of age, and before enlisting he worked as an engineer on the Government road running out of Graham, Ont. His mother resides in New Hamburg, Ont. She recently received a letter from his chaplain, Capt. (Rev.) D. E. D. Robertson, which stated that his death was due to a shell wound in his abdomen. He is buried near Villiers au Bois (Toronto Star - January 4, 1917)
