    RICKERT, Douglas Joseph - March 27, 1938 - September 12, 2006. It is with much sadness for Doug's family to announce the loss of "The Best". Best husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend. His soul left this earth with true faith and dignity after a year of pain and suffering from his cancer. He will be remembered with eternal love by his wife of 45 years, Vivian (LaFlamme). His humble kindness and example are remembered by his children Melanie (Peter) Stern, Waterloo; Francine (Greg) Schlosser, Windsor; Andrew (Jennifer) Rickert, Kitchener; and Anthony (Mona) Rickert, Mississauga. His fun, generosity and teaching ways are remembered by his grandchildren Matthew, Timothy and Rachel Stern; Paul, Mark and Michael Schlosser; Daniel, Stephen and Brian Rickert; and Emily, Sophie and Holly Rickert. Lovingly remembered by his only sister Donna (Peter) Breck and their children Greg, Cynthia and Lisa, Michigan, U.S.A. Deeply missed by his mother-in-law Rose (LaFlamme) Uttley, his brother-in-law Jim LaFlamme, his sisters-in-law Lorraine Daub, Claire LaFlamme, Joan (Mike) Roga, Marilyn (Larry) Culliton, Emilie (Doug) Totzke, Kitchener-Waterloo and Elaine (Chuck) Maziarz-Wilkin, West Montrose. Doug taught at South Huron District High School, Exeter and Preston High School for 35 years. He also taught at Wilfrid Laurier University. He was highly respected and regarded for his integrity and intelligence which he readily shared with anyone. His years of retirement were spent doing the things he loved on his hobby farm, his love of nature and his worldly travels with his beloved Vivian. Doug never lost faith in God and was fearless and prepared for eternal life. Doug will be missed by his buddies, Dennis, Peter, Gord, Gary, Brack and Bob and friends including Peggy and Pat Wallace, Ottawa, ten godchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and his cousin Karen (Albert) Vredeveld and children, Stratford. Predeceased by his parents, Earl Grey and Catherine (Koebel) Rickert, three brothers-in-law, and two sisters-in-law. Visitation will be held at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick St., Kitchener 519-749-8467, Thursday (tonight) 7-9 p.m. and Friday 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary's RC Church on Saturday, September 16, 2006 at 10 a.m. with Father William LaFlamme, Father Ernest Varosi and Father Ron Voisin (their Pastor at St. Boniface, Maryhill) officiating. Funeral prayers with Father Voisin at 3 p.m. Friday afternoon. As an expression of sympathy a donation to Lisaard House, Cambridge would be much appreciated and may be placed through the funeral home. Doug will always live on in our memories. Thank you for the kindness and superb care given to him during his stay at Grand River Hospital (8th floor nurses), his light-hearted, hopeful care during his chemo at the Grand River Cancer Centre and finally his devoted and passionate attention at Lisaard House will always be cherished by his family. Thank you also for the decisions made by all doctors and nurses involved with Doug's illness. His visits from Father Ron Voisin, Father William LaFlamme and Father Ernie Varosi were precious gifts from God. Last but not least, thank you for the hope and faith given to Doug from his devoted relatives and friends through all the cards of prayers, wellness and hope.

Loving mother of Lorraine (Gerth) Daub of Waterloo, Jim LaFlamme of Kitchener, Claire LaFlamme of Waterloo, Elaine (Chuck) Maziarz-Wilkin of West Montrose, Joan (Michael) Roga of Kitchener, Vivian Rickert of Maryhill, Marilyn (Larry) Culliton of Waterloo and Emilie (Douglas) Totzke of Kitchener. Step-mother to Nancy (Ron) Cook of Stratford and Dennis Uttley of Edmonton. Will be sadly missed by 33 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren. Survived by sister Catherine Shantz of Kitchener. Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents Edward and Mary (Dentinger) Schwartz, husbands Ambrose LaFlamme (1972) and Frank Uttley (1995), sons-in-law Harry Gerth, Bill Daub, Stan Maziarz, Doug Rickert and David Bricker, daughters-in-law Gladys LaFlamme and Marilyn LaFlamme, three brothers and three sisters. Relatives and friends were received at Schreiter-SandrockFuneral Home and Chapel, (519-742-4481) 51 Benton Street, Kitchener on Thursday from 7-9 p. m. and will be received today (Friday) from 2-4 and 7-9 p. m. Rosary will be recited on Friday at 2 p. m. by Father William LaFlamme. Prayers will be offered from the funeral home on Saturday, November 18, 2006 at 1:30 p. m. followed by a procession to St. Francis of Assisi RC Church, (Blueridge Ave. ) for a Funeral Mass at 2 p. m. with Father Joseph de Viveiros CR officiating. Cremation to follow. A private family interment will take place at Parkview Cemetery at a later date. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.     The death of Mr. John A. Rickert took place on Monday in his 31st year. The deceased had been ill for the past three months, and although death was not unexpected, it came as a great shock to a large number of friends and relatives. A wife, and three children, Arthur, Wildna, and Earl and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. B. Rickert are left to mourn the loss of a a devoted husband and father.

    The funeral will be held on Thursday afternoon from his father's residence, 25 Cedar Street, at 2 o'clock, to Zion Evangelical Church, where service will be held, and to Mount Hope Cemetery for interment.

    The death of Alex J. Koebel, 72, 180 Weber St. East, Kitchener occurred yesterday at St. Mary's Hospital following a brief illness. A native of Linwood, he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Koebel. He was employed in Kitchener by Ed Witmer and Sons Ltd. Mr. Koebel was a member of St. Anne's RC Church. His wife, the former Helen Forwell, died in 1949. Surviving are three sons, Clarence, St. Marys; Elmer, Kitchener; Frank, Waterloo; three daughters, Mrs. Earl (Katherine) Rickert, Kitchener; and Mrs. Alvin (Genevieve) Craig, Kitchener; and Mrs. Paul (Mary) Mattuissi, Wellesley; and four brothers, Anthony, Linwood; Edward, Toronto; Leander, Linwood, Alban, Linwood. A daughter, Corita, also predeceased him. The body is resting at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home where prayers will be said Monday at 9:30 a.m. Requiem high mass will be solemnized in St. Anne's Church at 10 a.m. The rosary will be recited at the funeral home tomorrow at 8:15 p.m. Rev. H.B. Smith will officiate at the funeral and Interment will be in Woodland RC Cemetery
