    ELAINE SHANTZ 1928 - 2009 Of New Hamburg, passed away suddenly, as a result of a car accident, on Thursday, January 8, 2009, at the age of 80 years. Beloved wife of Roy for 53 years. Loving mom of Carolyn Strathdee and husband Mike, Mark Shantz and wife Suean, Phil Shantz and wife Christina Enns, and Brenda Shantz. Grandma to granddaughters, Ashton, Ella, Kate, Natasha, and Mackenzie. Dear sister of Gloria Coats (Bill) and Diane Rohr and sister-in-law of Grace Rohr and Marion Rohr. She is also survived by brothers-in-law, Ralph Shantz (Nelda) and Rae Hilborn. Predeceased by her parents, Milton and Alice (Culligan) Rohr and brothers, Ed Rohr and Ken Rohr. Elaine lived her entire life in Waterloo County and was a lifelong member of Stirling Avenue Mennonite Church. She worked for many years with Adjusters Canada. For the past 16 years, Roy and Elaine have lived at Morningside Village in New Hamburg. Relatives and friends are invited to share memories of Elaine during visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home , 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Saturday, January 10 (today) from 7-9 p.m. and on Sunday, January 11 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service to honour Elaine's life and faith will be held at Stirling Avenue Mennonite Church, 57 Stirling Ave., Kitchener on Monday, January 12, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Marilyn Rudy-Froese officiating. A reception will immediately follow the service at the church. Private family committal service at Memory Gardens, Breslau.     VALENTINE ROHR

    The death of Valentine Rohr, 78. occurred at his late residence, Centreville, yesterday afternoon.

    The son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Rohr, the deceased was born in Blenheim Township. March 3, 1867. His marriage to the former Barbara Poll took place in Mannheim, Feb. 8, 1899. He was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church.

    Surviving besides his wife are four sons, Milton, Russell and Willard, all of Kitchener, and Arnold at home; four daughters, Violet, Gladys and Dorothy at home. and Mrs. Pearlous (Edna) Shantz, of Kitchener. Also surviving are one brother Samuel, of Waterloo, a sister, Mrs. Adam Poll, Roseville, and seven grandchildren. A daughter. Mrs. Oscar Shultz, predeceased him. in 1930.

    The remains will rest at the Ratz- Bechtel Funeral Home until 3 o'clock, Thursday, when they will be removed to the residence, where a private service will be held at p.m. Friday, followed by a public service at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Kitchener, at 2:30. Dr. John Schmieder, pastor of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, will con- duct the services. Interment will be made in Woodland Cemetery.

    Mrs. Barbara Rohr

    Mrs. Barbara Rohr, 70, Centreville, died last night at the K-W Hospital after a brief illness. Born Aug. 26, 1878, in Wilmot Township, she was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Carl Poll. Mrs. Rohr was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church. Her husband, Valentine Rohr, predeceased her Nov. 20, 1945.

    Surviving are four sons, Milton, Russell and Willard, all of Kitchener, and Arnold of Kingsdale; fouf.daughters, Miss Violet Rohr and Miss Gladys Rohr, both at home, Centreville; Mrs. Pearlous (Edna) Shantz, Kitchener; Mrs. Frank (Dorothy) Hammer, Centreville; also two adopted daughters, Mrs. Alton (Elizabeth) Scharman, Kitchener; Mrs. Alfred (Hilda) Boley of Meredith, New Hampshire; a brother, John Poll, Roseville; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

    The funeral will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. from the residence near Centreville to St. Matthew's Lutheran Church for service at 2:30 p.m. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery. Rev. Dr. H. T. Lehmann of Waterloo will officiate in the absence of Rev. Dr. John Schmieder, pastor. The body will be at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home until 10 a.m. Fri- day when removal will be made to the residence.

    Death of Mrs. Conrad Pfohl

    Mrs. Conrad Pfohl, an old and highly esteemed resident of Mannheim, passed away last Sunday, December 14th, at the age of 42 years and 2 months. Her maiden name was Reichert, and she lived many years in Mannheim. Her husband died about twenty years ago. A family of eleven children survive. Mrs. Pfohl was a member of the Mannheim Lutheran Church and her remains were interred n the church cemetery on Tuesday afternoon. Rev. Mr. Brenner of Baden conduced the services.
