    Peter B. Bowman

Last week death removed, from this district, one of the best known and most highly respected personages in our rural life, Mr. Peter Bowman, who lived at Floradale.

Mr. Bowman was raised on a farm between St. Jacobs and Heidelberg, and when yet a young man he removed to a farm a short distance north of Floradale where he lived until several years ago when he retired to a smaller place just south of that village. Mr. Bowman was a model type of that sturdy, honourable and well-meaning class of people to whom this district owes much of its progress and stability. As a friend and neighbor he was steadfast and obliging. As a citizen, his character was unimpeachable. As a husband and father, he was kind and affectionate, and as a Christian, he endeavored to live up to his professions. He was straightforward, modest, honourable and trustworthy. As a consequence, he was respected by all who had the pleasure of his acquaintance. For many years he was elder of the Old Mennonite Church. He was noted for his liberal views and tolerant disposition.

His death leaves a vacancy in his sphere of action difficult to fill. Deceased has, for several years, been failing in health and suffered a slight paralytic stroke a considerable time before his death. Though generally able to be about, he could perform his duties only with difficulty being subject to weakness mentally and bodily. It was, therefore, not surprising to his friends to hear that he had been suddenly taken away by heart failure. Deceased had reached the age of 71 years, 4 months and 13 days.

He leaves to mourn their loss an aged widow, three sons and four daughters, namely: Joshua, of Alberta; Mrs. Norman F. Martin, of Wallenstein; Jonas, of Alberta; Mrs. David F. Martin, of Wallenstein; Miss Esther, at home; Mrs. Aaron Martin, of Woolwich, and Peter, at home.
