    Albert and Anna had wanted to marry sooner than they did but when they approached their minister (name unknown), he refused to marry them and suggested that they wait a while. When they approached him a second time, he again refused to marry them. This refusal was due to the fact that Anna's father did not want Anna to marry "a cripple" and had convinced the minister that he should not marry them. Anna had previously worked for Bishop Jonas Snider so they asked him to marry them. He not only conducted the marriage ceremony when Albert married Anna S Shantz, but also performed the marriage ceremony when Albert married Martha G Bauman.

    When the family was away in Toronto, Albert ran out of corn and put the horses on the round treadmill platform to cut some. When he shoved the corn into the cutter it caught his hand and took it off. He ran to the uncle's place, Bert Barbour, who took him to the doctor in Plattsville.

    Albert married Anna Shantz 8 Apr 1903, , Waterloo Region, Ontario, Canada. Anna (daughter of John D. Shantz and Elizabeth Steiner) was born 25 Jul 1871, Wilmot Twp., Waterloo Region, Ontario, Canada; died 29 Jul 1917, Kitchener, Waterloo Region, Ontario, Canada. [Group Sheet]

    Notes:

    Habermehl. - Anna Shantz Habermehl was born in Waterloo Co., Ont., July 25, 1871; died July 29, 1917; aged 46 y. 4 d. She accepted Christ as her Savior early in life, joined the Mennonite Church and was an example of industry, sincerity, and humility that many would do well to follow. During the last few months of her life she suffered much from a complication of diseases, and here also as well as in health, she proved what a wonderful measure of grace the Savior can give, by bearing it all in perfect patience and resignation to the will of God. For a little over fourteen years she had lived in matrimony with Albert Habermehl, which union was blessed with 1 son and 5 daughters, who, with the sorrowing husband, 3 brothers, 3 sisters, an aged father, and the entire congregation with whom she worshiped for fourteen years, mourn the departure of one we all loved.

    Yes, she has left this vale of tears,
    To be with Christ who for her died,
    With Him to spend the eternal years,
    And praise Him with the glorified.

She was fully resigned to God's will and longed to go home to be with Jesus. She leaves husband, 5 sons, 4 daughters, 38 grandchildren, 2 sisters, and 3 brothers. We rejoice in a hope to meet her again. Funeral services were held at the Shantz Church by Orphan Wismer and Manassah Hallman. Interment in the adjoining cemetery.

    "I'm going to live with the angels so fair;
    I'll look for you children and wait for you there,
    Where tears do not flow and where death cannot come,
    Together we'll dwell in that beautiful home."
    A daughter.
