    Notes:

    Wagler. - Joseph Z., son of the late John and Annie (Zehr) Wagler, was born in Waterloo County on April 7, 1874; passed to his eternal reward at the age of 78 y. 1 m. 13 d. In his youth he accepted Christ as his personal Saviour and became a member of the East Zorra Amish Mennonite Church where he remained until his death. On Jan. 26, 1896, he was united in holy wedlock to Elizabeth Iutzi. He leaves to mourn his departure, one son (Daniel, South Easthope, Ont.; and John, Wellesley, Ont.), one sister (Mary, Clarence, N. Y.), 7 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son (Simon), one daughter (Alma), his companion in 1921, and 2 brothers (Jacob and Christian). Funeral services were held at the East Zorra Amish Mennonite Church, May 23, in charge of Henry Yantzi. Interment was made in the adjoining cemetery.

    Notes:

    John W. Wagler In the death of John W. Wagler which occurred at the home of his son, Mr. Chr. Wagler, in South Easthope on March 31st another of the old pioneers of this district has passed to the Great Beyond. The late Mr. Wagler reached the advanced age of 89 years, 4 months and 7 days. He was born In Elsace Lorraine on November 24th, 1842. In the year 1848 his parents migrated to America and the family settled on the farm at Baden now owned by Mr. J. P Livingston. The family crossed the ocean in the old sailing ships and it was five weeks that these pioneers were on the water when they reach New York from Havre. In his youth the late Mr. Wagler pledged his religious faith in the church of his forefathers, the Amish-Mennonites, in which faith he worshipped as a true Christian all his life. He married Anna Zehr, of Wilmot, and with her lived in the holy bonds of matrimony for 63 years. Their union was blessed with seven children, six of whom survive. After his marriage the deceased farmed for some years near New Dundee and later settled in South Easthope. He retired from active work in 1905 and he and his wife had since made their home with their son, Mr. Christian Wagler in South Easthope. Besides his widow he leaves five sons and one daughter, 29 grandchildren and 42 great grand-children. The surviving members of the family are Moses and Noah, of the Gravel Road, Chris and Joseph in South Easthope, John of Wellesley village, and Mrs. Nich. D. Roth, of Clarence, N.Y. The funeral was held to the Amish Mennonite Church on the 16th line East Zorra and a very large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends attended to pay their last tribute of respect to the departed. The funeral services were conducted by Bishop Daniel S. Jutzi, of East Zorra, assisted by Chris. Gascho, of Baden, and Daniel Lebold, of Wellesley. Interment was made in the adjoining cemetery.

    Iutzi.-Mary Iutzi (nee Schrag) was born in Perth Co., Ont., June 17, 1853; died March 16, 1939, in Oxford Co., Ont.; aged 85 y. 8 m. 29 d. In early youth she united with the East Zorra A. M. church under the ministry of Bishop Joseph Ruby. She was united in holy matrimony to Michael Iutzi, living in matrimony 55 years; and in widowhood almost 11 years. This union was blessed with 4 sons and 10 daughters, of whom 3 sons (Benjamin, Aaron and Simon) and 3 daughters (Catherine, Elizabeth and Lydia) predeceased her. Surviving are 1 son (Bishop Dan S. Iutzi) and 7 daughters (Magdalena, wife of late Christian Ruby; Leah, wife of Dan S. Zehr; Rachel, wife of Solomon Bender; Amanda, at home; Nancy, wife of Michael Jantzi; Mary, wife of Mrs. Jacob Yantzi; and Emma, wife of Samuel Wagler); also 53 grandchildren of whom 3 died, and 77 great-grandchildren of whom 9 died. One sister (Barbara, wife of late Chris Kennel of Wellesley) survives. Services at home March 19, conducted by David Schwartzentruber and at East Zorra A. M. Church by Bros. Menno Kipfer and Jac. R. Bender. Interment in adjoining cemetery.

    Another of our old pioneers was called away last week in the death of Mr. Joseph Zehr, who died last Tuesday evening, July 26th, at the home of his son-in-law, Mr. Chris. Wagler, at the ripe old age of 87 years, 6 months and 25 days, after a short illness. The funeral was held on Friday forenoon and was largely attended. Many came from far and near to pay their-last tribute of respect to the departed. Bishop Daniel H. Steinmann conducted the service at the house, after which the remains were taken to the cemetery at the Amish-Mennonite meeting house west of Baden, and laid in their last resting place A large concourse of people followed the remains to the grave. After the interment, services were conducted in the meeting-house by Bishop Jacob Bender, assisted by several others. Joseph Zehr was born in Lorraine, Germany, Dec. 31st, 1817, and came to Canada with his parents. They resided in Woolwich Township for a few years, then moved to Wilmot, where Mr. Zehr resided till his death. His wife to whom he was married in 1846, died in 1900. Thus they had lived together for over half a century. Three sons and three daughters survive to mourn the loss of their father. The pioneers who first settled here when Wilmot was about all bush yet, are nearly all gone to join the great majority. We extend our sincere sympathy to all the bereaved ones.

    JUTZI - Sister Catharine Jutzi was born on the 14th of February 1813, and died in East Zorra, Oxford Co., Ont., on the 21st of March 1896, aged 83 years, 1 month, 8 days. She was a faithful sister in the Mennonite church, and was esteemed by all who knew her. Her husband, George Jutzi, with whom she lived in matrimony for 52 years, preceded her. Of her 8 children 6 survive her. She also leaves 36 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
