    Joseph Kropf

    Following a week's illness with pneumonia, Mr. Joseph Kropf passed away at his home three miles west of New Hamburg last Thursday May 24th, at the age of 35 years, 9 months and 16 days. He appeared to have passed the crisis of the illness when a relapse set in to which he succumbed. His early death is deeply mourned and deep sympathy is felt for the bereaved family. The deceased was a son of the late Simon and Mrs. Kropf, of New Hamburg, and was born in Ellice township on August 8th, 1898, where he spent his boyhood days. He married Bena Bender, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Bender, of South Easthope, and after his marriage he moved onto the farm on the highway west of New Hamburg nine years ago, where he passed away. The deceased was a faithful member of the Amish-Mennonite Church and was highly esteemed in the community. He leaves in deep bereavement his sorrowing young widow and three small children, Floyd John, Delford Wayne and Bernice Elizabeth, besides his mother, Mrs. Simon Kropf, of New Hamburg, three brothers, Ezra, Alvin and Albert, all of this town and six sisters, Mrs. Wm. Pauli, New Hamburg, Mrs. Herman Krueger and Mrs. Milton Koehler, of Kitchener, Mrs. Noah Ruby, Millbank, Mrs. Ivan Bender, Wilmot, and Miss Barbara at her mother's home. The funeral was held on Sunday afternoon from his late home to the A-M Church on the 16th line in East Zorra, and was one of the largest ever held at that church. Relatives and friends were present from Kitchener, Hay Township, Millbank, Wellesley, New Hamburg and surrounding district. The service at the house was conducted by Rev. Menno Kipfer and Bishop Daniel Lebold and Rev. Jacob R. Bender officiated at the church and graveside. Internment was made in the adjoining cemetery. The pallbearers were: John Zehr, Enos Zehr, Ed. Litwiller, Aaron Kropf, Peter Bender and Clarence Bender.

    Bena Bender, daughter of John and Magdalena (Zehr) Bender, was born in East Zorra Twp., Ont.; died at Nithview Home, New Hamburg, Ont., Oct. 3, 1988; aged 82 y. On Oct. 9, 1924, she was married to Joseph Kropf, who died on May 24, 1934. Surviving are 3 sons (Floyd, Delford, and Merlen), one daughter (Bernice Wagler), 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, one brother (Joseph), and one sister (Elizabeth Schwartzentruber).     Kropf, Bena

    On Monday, Oct. 3, 1988, at her residence, Nithview Home, New Hamburg. She was formerly of RR 1, Shakespeare and was born 82 years ago. Daughter of the late John Bender and the former Magdalena Zehr. She was a member of Hillcrest Mennonite Church, New Hamburg. Was the beloved wife of Joseph Kropf, whom she married October 9, 1924, and who predeceased her May 24, 1934. Lovingly remembered by her children, Floyd and his wife Hilda of Tavistock, Bernice and her husband Laverne Wagler of RR 2, Baden, Delford of New Hamburg, Merlen and his wife Doreen of RR 2, Elora; dear sister of Joseph of RR 2, Tavistock, and Mrs, Elizabeth (Lizzie) Schwartzentruber of RR 2, Tavistock. Sadly missed by 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by one brother, Christian and one sister, Mrs. Annie Streicher. Friends and relatives called at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 291 Huron St., New Hamburg, until Thursday, Oct. 6, 1988 at noon, when transfer was made to Hillcrest Mennonite Church, for service at 2 p.m., with pastor Harold Schlegel officiating. Internment in the 15th Line, East Zorra Mennonite cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made tto Nithview Home or Gideon Bibles.

    Wagler, Moses, son of the late John and Annie (Zehr) Wagler, was born in Waterloo Co., Ont. May 12, 1872; passed away at the home of his son Samuel after a lengthy illness, Sept. 10, 1957; aged 83 y. 3m. 28 d. In his youth he accepted Christ as his Saviour, uniting with the East Zorra A. M. Church, remaining a faithful member until the end. On Nov. 17, 1895, he was married to Katherine Brenneman, who preceded him in death in January 1953. They shared the joys and sorrows of life together for over 58 years. Surviving are 3 sons (Samuel and John, Shakespeare; David, of Tavistock), one daughter (Nancy-Mrs. Enos Zehr, of Bright), 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 2 brothers (John, Wellesley; Noah, Shakespeare), and one sister (Mary-Mrs. Nicklas Roth, Petersburg). Two grandchildren preceded him in death. Funeral services were conducted at the East Zorra Church in charge of Andrew Zehr, William McGrath, Joel Swartzentruber, and Henry Yantzi.     Mrs. Moses Wagler

    NEW HAMBURG - Mrs. Moses Wagler, (86), died Saturday in St. Mary's Hospital. She had received a leg fracture Thursday. Born in South Easthope, she was the former Catherine Brenneman, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Brenneman. She was a member of the East Zorra Amish Mennonite Church on the (18th) Line. Surviving, in addition to her husband, are six sons, Samuel B., South Easthope; David, Tavistock; John, North Easthope; Jacob Bast, Wellesley; Dan Bast, Tavistock; Moses Bast, South Easthope; 2 daughters, Mrs. Enos (Nancy) (Eaby), Blandford Township; Mrs. Joseph Schlegal, South Easthope. Fourteen grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren also survive. The body is resting at the home of son Samuel Wagler, South Easthope, where a short service will be held Tuesday at 1: 30 p.m. A service at the South Easthope Amish Mennonite Church will follow at 2: 15 p.m. burial will be in the adjoining cemetery. Bishop Henry Yantzi will officiate.

    Iutzi.-Mary Iutzi (nee Schrag) was born in Perth Co., Ont., June 17, 1853; died March 16, 1939, in Oxford Co., Ont.; aged 85 y. 8 m. 29 d. In early youth she united with the East Zorra A. M. church under the ministry of Bishop Joseph Ruby. She was united in holy matrimony to Michael Iutzi, living in matrimony 55 years; and in widowhood almost 11 years. This union was blessed with 4 sons and 10 daughters, of whom 3 sons (Benjamin, Aaron and Simon) and 3 daughters (Catherine, Elizabeth and Lydia) predeceased her. Surviving are 1 son (Bishop Dan S. Iutzi) and 7 daughters (Magdalena, wife of late Christian Ruby; Leah, wife of Dan S. Zehr; Rachel, wife of Solomon Bender; Amanda, at home; Nancy, wife of Michael Jantzi; Mary, wife of Mrs. Jacob Yantzi; and Emma, wife of Samuel Wagler); also 53 grandchildren of whom 3 died, and 77 great-grandchildren of whom 9 died.     Mr. Simon Kropf

    Death came with startling suddenness to Mr. Simon Kropf of this town last Thursday afternoon, October 6th. He was hauling in corn from the field of Mr. Joseph Bender, which is also the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Bender. He was bringing in a load of corn and when the horses stopped a short distance away from the barn his son-in-law and others went to see what was wrong and found Mr. Kropf dead on the load of corn stalks. A doctor was immediately summoned to the scene and he pronounced death due to a sudden heart attack. The remains were taken to the house and were late removed to his home on Moyer street in New Hamburg. The late Mr. Kropf was born near Wellesley on November 22nd, 1875. In October 1897 he married Barbara Albrecht. They resided near Poole until about seven years ago where they moved to New Hamburg. In religion Mr. Kropf was a member of the Amish Mennonite Church. He leaves to mourn his sudden demise, his wife, four sons and five daughters, namely; Joseph, of South Easthope, Ezra, Alvin and Albert at home, (Lavina) Mrs. William Pauli, of New Hamburg, (Clara) Mrs. Herman Krueger, of Kitchener, (Fanny) Mrs. Noah Ruby, of Millbank, (Katie) Mrs. Milton Koehler, of Kitchener, (Lena) Mrs. Ivan Bender, of Wilmot, and Miss Barbara of Mimico. Four brothers and four sisters also survive, Mrs. M. Leis, Miss Mattie and Miss Anna, of Wellesley, and Mrs. Christian Litwiller, of New Hamburg, Rudy of St. Agatha, John of St. Clements, David of Waterloo and Christian, of Kitchener. The funeral took place on Sunday forenoon from his late home to the Poole A.M. Church and Cemetery and was attended by a large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends. The sympathy of the community is extended to the bereaved family in their sad loss.

    Milverton, July 13 - The death of Mrs. Barbara Kropf of Waterloo, widow of Simon Kropf, occurred at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mrs. and Mrs. Noah Roby of near Millbank, yesterday, at the age of 71 years. Mrs. Kropf had enjoyed the best of health until four weeks ago. A daughter of the late George Albrecht and Mary Hammar, she was born in Ellice Township, June 12, 1874. On Oct. 28, 1897, she married Simon Kropf and they took up residence on a farm near Topping where they lived until moving to New Hamburg in 1926. During the past two years Mrs. Kropf has lived in Waterloo. She was a member of the Poole Amish Mennonite Church. Her husband predeceased her in 1932 and one son, Joseph, in 1933, and she is survived by three sons, Ezra, Alvin and Albert of Waterloo, and six daughters, Mrs. William (Lavina) Pauli, New Hamburg; Mrs. Noah (Fanny) Ruby, Millbank; Mrs. Herman (Clara) Kreuger, Mrs. Milton (Katie) Koehler and Mrs. Edward (Barbara) Oakley of Kitchener, and Mrs. Ivan (Lena) Bender of Woodstock. One sister, Mrs. Jacob Kuepfer of Tavistock, 25 grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survive. Four brothers and three sisters predeceased her. The funeral will be held on Sunday with private service at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ruby, near Millbank at 1: 30, followed by public service at Poole Amish Mennonite Church at 2: 15. Internment will be made in the adjoining cemetery. Rev. Christian Schultz of Poole will conduct the services.

    John Bender

    John Bender of Tavistock, formerly of New Hamburg and South Easthope Township, died last Friday at the age of 91.

    Born Oct. 7, 1878 in Wilmot Township, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Bender and farmed in South Easthope Township for many years before retiring and moving to New Hamburg. He came to Tavistock three months ago. Mr. Bender was a member of the East Zorra Mennonite Church 16th line.

    His wife, the former Magdalena Zehr predeceased him in 1955. Surviving are one son, Joseph, Shakespeare; three daughters, Mrs. Bena Kropf, New Hamburg; Mrs. David (Annie) Streicher and Mrs. John (Elizabeth) Schwartzentruber, Tavistock; three sisters, Mrs. Noah (Lena) Wagler, New Hamburg; Mrs. Christian (Katie) Lebold and Mrs. Christian (Anne) Baechler, both of Tavistock; 16 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by one son and six brothers.

    Funeral service was held at the East Zorra Mennonite church, 16th line, on Monday, Rev Newton Gingerich officiating.

    Burial took place in the church cemetery.

    The Robert Krug Funeral Home, Tavistock, was in charge of arrangements.

    Bender, -- Magdalena, daughter of the late Peter and Bena Zehr, was born in East Zorra, Ont., on April 19, 1873, lived in this community all her life; passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Bena Kropf; on March 14, 1955; aged 81 y. 11 m. 5 d. She accepted Christ as her Saviour in her youth and remained a faithful member of the East Zorra Amish Mennonite Church. In 1892, she married Moses Bender, who died in 1897. This family was blessed with one son (Christian), who died in April 1924. On March 13, 1900, she married John Bender. This family was blessed with one son and 3 daughters. Surviving are her husband, one son (Joseph of South Easthope), 3 daughters (Annie-Mrs. David Streicher, Tavistock, Ont.; Mrs. Bena Kropf, South Easthope; Elizabeth-Mrs. John Swartzentruber, East Zorra), 16 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and one sister (Mrs. Bena Bender, Tavistock). Four brothers and 3 sisters preceded her. Funeral services were held at East Zorra on March 16 by Henry Yantzi, assisted by Dan Wagler. Interment was made in the adjoining cemetery.
