    CRESSMAN, Richard "Chezy" Passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Friday, March 9, 2018 at St. Mary's General Hospital, Kitchener. Rick resided in New Hamburg and was born 59 years ago, a son of the late David B and Alice (Shantz) Cressman. Loving father of Kayla and Daniel Martin and Courtney and Robert Hough. Dearly missed by Kayla and Courtneys' mom Sally Cressman. Cherished brother to Judy Smallwood, Janet Jamison and Bill, Laurie McKay and Doug, Murray Cressman and Sherry, Sharon Boutell and Colin. Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Rick was predeceased by a brother, Douglas in infancy and brother-in-law Adrian Smallwood. Chezy was an avid sports fan. You could often find him at the local pub, The Scran and Dram cheering on his favourite sports teams. He spent many years actively playing hockey and baseball and loved all sports. Family and friends will be received at Wilmot Centre Missionary Church, 2463 Bleams Road, Petersburg on Sunday, March 11, from 6-8 p.m. and again on Monday, March 12 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. The funeral service will take place on Tuesday, March 13, at 11: 00 a.m. at Wilmot Centre Missionary Church where Pastor Wayne Domm will officiate.     CRESSMAN, Alice Alta It is with peace and sadness we announce the passing of Alice (Shantz) Cressman. She went home to be with her Lord in the evening of June 30, 2011 in her 89th year, at her residence at Nithview Community, New Hamburg. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Lydia (Snyder) Shantz. She will be missed by her loving husband of almost 60 years David B. Cressman. Loving mother of her six children Judy and Adrian Smallwood of Seechelt, B.C., Janet and Bill Jamison of Stratford, Laurie and Doug McKay of Tavistock, Rick Cressman, Murray and Sherry Cressman and Sharon and Colin Bouttell all of New Hamburg. Missed and well loved by her grandchildren Mike (Tina), Emily (Reid), Joshua (Nicole), Graham, Derek, Courtney, Ben (Holley), Krysti, Tyler, Daniel, Sean, Kyle, Kayla, Hayley, Jessica, Jesse and Sarah, great-grandchildren Victoria, Hope and another on the way. Remembered by sister-in-law Susie and Leroy Good of New Hamburg and many nieces and nephews. Alice was predeceased by a son Douglas in infancy, sister Louise and David Jantzi, brothers Vernon and Helen Shantz and Wayne Shantz. Alice was an active member of Wilmot Centre Missionary Church where she participated in many activities. She attended the Kitchener Farmers Market for her entire life and loved gardening, canning and sharing her gift of hospitality with others.     Notes:

    A sad event occurred last Monday when Mrs. Josiah Cressman departed this life after a short illness with pneumonia. Deceased was well known and highly respected in this neighborhood. Her early demise has left a vacancy in her home circle that can never be filled. She leaves to mourn their loss a sorrowing husband, a daughter and three sons the two youngest of which (twin sons) aged about two years were both ill with influenza when they were bereft of their mother. The funeral took place on Thursday afternoon at the Mennonite church which adjoins the homestead.

    Joseph Shantz - Baden

    Joseph Shantz, 60, of R.R. 2 New Hamburg , died at his home yesterday afternoon following a lengthy illness. Born in Wilmot Township, a son of the late Mr. And Mrs. Daniel Shantz, he was a well known district farmer. He was a member of the Geiger Mennonite Church. Besides his wife, the former Lydia Snyder, two sons, Vernon of Victoriaburg and Wayne of Baden, and to daughters, Louise and Alice at home, survive. Here brothers, Norman and Simeon of Haysville and Uzziah of Strasburg and two sisters, Mrs. Ephraim Schmidt and Mrs. John McKenzie of Baden and one grandchild also survive. A sister Annie, died 34 years ago. The remains will be held at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home until 7 o'clock tonight when removal will be made to the residence near Baden until 1: 30 p.m. Monday. The funeral with Rev. Moses Roth officiating will be held at the Geiger Mennonite Church at 2 p.m. Monday. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery.

    Joseph Shantz

    A lifelong and well known resident of Wilmot Township, Mr. Joseph Shantz, passed away at his home east of Wilmot Centre on Friday, May 15, aged 60 years. He had been ill for some time and two months ago sold his farm, stock and implements, owing to poor health.

    The deceased was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Shantz, pioneer residents of the district. He was a member of Geiger Mennonite Church.

    Besides his wife, the former Lydia Snyder, he is survived by two sons, Vernon, Victoriaburg, Wayne, Baden, two daughters, Louise and Alice, at home. He is also survived by three brothers, Norman and Simeon Shantz, of Haysville, Ussiah, Strasburg, and two sisters, Mrs. Eph. Schmidt, and Mrs. John McKenzie, Baden, and one grandchild.

    The funeral was held on Monday afternoon from his late home to Geiger Mennonite Church for service, followed by interment in the adjoining cemetery. Rev. Moses Roth conducted the funeral service, which was attended by a large circle of relatives and friends.

    Joseph, son of the late Daniel and Mary (Nahrgang) Shantz, was born in Wilmot Twp., on Dec. 30, 1881, and lived in the said township his entire lifetime. He passed away at his home near Baden, Ont., on May 15, 1942; aged 60 y. 4 m. 15 d. Bro. Shantz had been in failing health for some time, but was not confined to the house until the last several weeks before his death. He was a faithful member of the Geiger Mennonite congregation near Baden for the past 45 years. His place at church was seldom vacant. During his last illness he expressed his desire to go Home. On Feb. 8, 1911, he was married to Lydia Snider who survives him with four children: Vernon of Petersburg, Wayne of Baden, and Louise and Alice, at home. There also remain: 1 granddaughter, 3 brothers, and 2 sisters: Norman and Simeon of Haysville, Uzziah of Strasburg, Mrs. Ephraim Schmitt and Mrs. John McKenzie of Baden. One sister, Annie, predeceased him 34 years ago. Funeral services were held at the home by Bro. M. Hallman and then at the Geiger Mennonite Church, where the Bros. C. C. Culp of Brethren, Mich., and M. H. Roth spoke from the texts found in John 14:1-7 and Matt. 5:12a. Interment in adjoining cemetery.

    Shantz, --- Lydia, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Amos Snyder, passed away at the Kitchener-Waterloo Hospital after a brief illness, March 22, 1953, in her seventy-fourth year. On Feb. 11, 1911, she was united in marriage to Joseph Shantz, who preceded her in death 11 years ago. Surviving are 2 sons (Vernon and Wayne, Petersburg, Ont.), 2 daughters (Louise-Mrs. David Jantzi, Kitchener, Ont.; and Alice-Mrs. David Cressman, New Hamburg, Ont.), and 6 grandchildren. She was converted in her youth and united with the Mennonite Church to which faith she was loyal until her death, seldom being absent from church services. She was keenly interested in the work of the church, having been a Sunday-school teacher for many years and an active member of the local sewing circle at the time of her departure from this world. Funeral services were conducted, March 25, at the Geiger Mennonite Church, by C. C. Cressman and M. H. Roth. The body was laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery.

    NEW HAMBURG - Mrs. Lydia Shantz, 73, of RR 2, New Hamburg, died yesterday at the K-W Hospital after a brief illness. She was born at Baden, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Amos B. Snyder. Her husband, Joseph Shantz, died May 15, 1942. Mrs. Shantz was a member of Geiger Mennonite Church. Surviving are two sons, Vernon, and Wayne, both of RR 2, Petersburg; two daughters, Mrs. David (Louise) Jantzi, Kitchener, and Mrs. David (Alice) Cressman, RR 2, New Hamburg, and six grandchildren. The funeral will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. from her home, RR 2, New Hamburg, to Geiger Mennonite Church for services at 2: 30. Rev. Moses H. Roth, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery. The body is at the Ratz Bechtel Funeral Home until 4 p.m. tomorrow when it will be taken to the home at RR 2, New Hamburg

They reside near Elmira, Ontario, where he is engaged in farming. On October 4th, 1872, he was ordained deacon of the Mennonite body. His family consists of eight children of whom four were of the first wife and four of the second"

    Shantz.-Daniel Shantz was born in Wilmot Tp., Jan. 4, 1844; died at his home near Haysville, Ont., where he had spent the greater part of his life, Oct. 7, 1936; aged 92 y. 9 m. 3 d. On March 10, 1868, he was married to Mary Nahrgang, who preceded him in death 14 years ago. One daughter (Annie) also preceded him. He leaves 4 sons (Norman, Uzziah, Joseph and Simeon), 2 daughters (Ella-Mrs. E. Schmitt, and Clara-Mrs. J. Mackenzie), 4 sisters, 29 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, besides many other relatives and friends. He united with the Mennonite Church in youth and remained a faithful member till death. He was blessed with good health and was seldom absent from church or Sunday school until the last year of his life, being bedfast the last few months. Funeral services were held Oct. 11 at the home and in Geiger Mennonite Church in charge of Bros. Manasseh Hallman, Henry King, and Moses H. Roth. Remains laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery.

    Snyder. -Amos B., son of the late Moses K. and Lydia (Bechtel) Snyder, was born in Waterloo, Co., Ont., Sept. 30, 1854; died Dec. 26, 1937; aged 83 y. 2 m. 26 d. He was married to Mary Ann Kuntzenhauser Feb. 18, 1879. This union was blessed with 6 sons and 2 daughters. His beloved wife died March 7, 1896. Three sons died in infancy, Eli died in 1909 and Hannah in 1924. He stayed at the home of his daughter Lydia (Mrs. Joe Shantz) where he died after a brief illness. He leaves 1 daughter (Lydia), 2 sons (Isaac from the old homestead, and Arthur of near Wilmot Centre), 11 grandchildren, 3 brothers, and a host of relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted Dec. 29 at the Shantz Church by Orphen Wismer and Manassah Hallman, and at the house by Moses Roth. Interment in the cemetery adjoining the church.

    Quite unexpected came the report on Saturday that Mrs. Amos Snyder, north of Baden, had died after a week's illness. The funeral took place on Monday morning. She was buried in the Erb's street Mennonite cemetery. Her age was about 41 years, and she leaves sorrowing husband and five children, sons and two daughters, the youngest months old.
