    Hertel.-- Bros. Franklin Hertel died at his home near Kitchener, Ont., on March 24 in his 77th year. In 1890 he was converted and joined the Mennonite Church, of which he remained faithful to the end. The cause of his death was dropsy and heart failure. He leaves to mourn his passing away, his devoted wife, 2 sons, 2 daughters, 13 grandchildren, and 2 sisters. Funeral services were held at the First Mennonite Church, Kitchener, in charge of Bro. C. F. Derstine.

    Frank Hertel was born May 3, 1854, at Mitchell, Ont.; died March 24, 1931; aged 76 y. 10 m. He was a healthy man until heart trouble and dropsy developed recently, and death ensured. Bro. Hertel had a wide circle of friends and his passing away is mourned by them. He is survived by his wife (Mary Moss Hertel, to whom he was married in 1876), 2 sons, 2 daughter, 13 grandchildren, and 2 sisters. Two sons preceded him in death. He united with the Mennonite Church in 1890 and was a loyal member of the Church. The consolations of the Christian faith sustained him in his last illness. May the Lord sustain the sorrowing ones. The funeral services were held at the First Mennonite Church, Kitchener, Ont., by Bro. C. F. Derstine. Theme: The Doorway to a Better World.

    Frank Hertel

    One of Waterloo County's pioneer farmers in the person of Frank Hertel of Centreville passed away on Tuesday. Mr. Hertel, well known in the district, while in failing health. was able to be about until a few days before his death. He was a member of the East Mennonite Church. There survive: his wife, two sons, Herbert of Centreville. Edward of Blair. two daughters. Mrs. Adam DeBrusk, Blair, and Mrs. Henry Hammer of Roseville also thirteen grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. August May of Saskatchewan, and Mrs. Gus May of Calgary.

    The funeral will be held Friday with private services at his home at 2 o'clock, and thence to the East Mennonite Church. Interment will be made in the adjoining cemetery.

    Hertel.-Mary Moss Hertel, widow of the late Frank Hertel passed away at the home of her daughter Mrs. Henry Hammer of Centerville, Ont., Tuesday evening Dec. 24, 1935; aged 77 y. 4 m. 14 d. She was born in Germany Aug. 10, 1858, coming to this country with her parents, Charles and Mary Moss when a young girl. On March 12, 1876 she was united in marriage to Frank Hertel, who predeceased her in death 4 years ago. This union was blessed by 4 sons and 2 daughters, 2 sons having predeceased her in death in infancy. She leaves 2 sons (Edward of Blair and Herbert of Kitchener), 2 daughters (Mrs. Adam DeBrusk of Blair and Mrs. Henry Hammer of Centerville), 13 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild to mourn her loss. One brother, John Moss of Kitchener also survives. Sister Hertel made her contribution to the Church and community by her substantial and consistent life, and passed her sojourn here with honor and respect. Funeral services were held at the First Mennonite Church of which she was a member. Bro. C. F. Derstine had charge of the services. Theme, "The Living Hope."
