"In 1882, Isaac Hallman was ordained minister of the new Mennonite Church in Kurtzville and served there until his death. He served also in Maryborough in 1901. The last Mennonite burial in Kurtzville seems to have been Nancy (Biehn) Hallman in 1909. To commemorate Mennonites in Canada for 200 years, a stone monument was built in Vineland, Ontario in1986. One stone is from this house and bears the words - Listowel, Isaac Hallman Farm."

"At the Conference in September 1864, it was reported that one family resided in Wallace. A preacher was appointed to visit and preach every eight weeks. By the year 1868 there were at least six or eight Mennonite families scattered in Wallace and Howick near the Perth-Huron county line. These families gathered in private homes and ministers from Waterloo County served them. In 1871 a meeting house wasbuilt on Conc. 6.

Isaac Weber was ordained as minister in 1869 and served faithfully until his death in 1892. Levi Weber was ordained Deacon in 1869. He moved to Waterloo about 1884, residing at St. Jacobs. A few other families moved in and some were added in the locality and the church flourished. The membership at this time has been estimated as many as 50. A Union SundaySchool was conducted with apparent success.

In the 1870's the church was evenly divided by the Mennonite Brethren in Christ division, and they alternated their meetings with the new group. The original Mennonite Brethren in Christ group finally came into possession of the property. The remainder of the old group again used dwellings for the meetings. The work became more and more difficult and several families moved to stronger congregations for the purpose of keeping their families in the church. To save the situation another church was built in Kurtzville.

Isaac Hallman was called to the ministry about 1882, but the number of members became fewer. About 1902 the building was sold and proceeds given to the Berlin church for building purposes."

    "Mr. Hallman's Sudden Death.

Mr. Isaac Hallman, a well known farmer of Wallace, died very suddenly of heart disease, at his home on Monday last. He had been treated for heart trouble for some time but was thought to be a good deal better of late, and had in fact been in town a few days before and looked, so far as looks went, the picture of health. He went out to the barn to feed stock on Monday, and not returning when the family were ready to sit down to dinner, his son went out to find him and found him dead. He had apparently fallen back while engaged in feeding some of the stock and life was quite extinct. He leaves quite a large family of grown up sons and daughters, two of them married daughters Mrs. Chris Horn and Mrs. Geo Dipple living in town. The funeral took place yesterday to the Kurtzville cemetery, and was largely attended. Mr. Hallman had been a hard working and successful farmer and intended shortly to retire from the farm. He was in the 61st year of his life."
