    Notes:

    Called Away Suddenly

A very sudden call to the great beyond came to Mrs. Jarvis about 5 o'clock on Wednesday evening. Mr. Jarvis, who does night work as engine wiper on the G. T. R., was sleeping at the time, and Mrs. Jarvis had been engaged in her household duties. When the former got up, he did not see his wife about, and the children told him she had gone outside. When she did not return for some time, he went out to look for her and was shocked to find her in an outhouse dead. What caused her death cannot be definitely known, but it is ascribed to hemmorhage [sic].

A husband and five small children are left alone in their great sorrow. Alone, yet not alone, for He who lays on the burden helps also to bear it; while the assurance that the people of Elmira though they are for the greater part, comparative strangers to the family, feel with them in their hour of affliction, may help also in some measure to ease the burden. Mrs. Jarvis was born in England, the family coming to this country only a few years ago.

Dr. Schultz, associate coroner, at first thought of holding an inquest, but upon consultation with the County authorities, such a step was deemed unnecessary.

The funeral will be held on Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the house on Park Street to the Union Cemetery.
