EBY, Patricia Ann (nee McGarry) Peacefully passed away in her room on Three Bridges at Sunnyside Home, Kitchener, Ontario on Sunday, April 26, 2015. Beloved wife of the late Robert Vernon (2008). Predeceased by her only son, Brian Patrick (2011), granddaughter, Lizzie (1998) and cherished sister, Mary Cardy (2011). Mother of Kevin Ann Reinhart (David), Mary Pat Alarie (Raymond), Shawn Eby and Robbie Jane Eby (Angelo Borrillo). Mother-in-law of Laura Eby. "Gram" to David Eby (Cailey Lynch), Meaghan Eby (Paul Pavlek), Patrick Eby (Mary Beth Backewich) and Matthew Eby (Jill); Colleen Reinhart and her fiancé Gregory Stashuk, Amy Reinhart and her fiancé Shane Hunt; Ben Alarie (Khrista), Maggie Alarie (Thomas Sträter) and Rob Alarie (Stephanie); Peter Borrillo, Louis Borrillo and Tom Borrillo. Great-grandmother of Charlotte Alarie, Frances Alarie, Tobias Sträter and Ezra Eby. Patricia was born in Dauphin, Manitoba on September 10, 1921. Patricia's father, Patrick J. McGarry, was working at the time as a Canada Land Surveyor - opening the west for residential settlement. Patrick and his wife, Henrietta, moved their two young girls to Kitchener where Patrick accepted the position of City Engineer. Patricia's mother, Henrietta, as past national president of the Catholic Women's League, worked tirelessly from 1939-1945, to marshal the forces of women across Canada in support of the war effort - earning a papal citation and Officer of the British Empire designation for her work. Patricia attended St. Mary's Elementary School, St. Mary's High School, Waterloo College and Stratford Normal School before beginning her career as an elementary school teacher with full time positions at St. John, St. Joseph and Sacred Heart Schools. Patricia McGarry married Robert V. Eby on September 28, 1946. Robert worked for the City of Kitchener as Assistant Treasurer, Treasurer and Commissioner of Finance until his retirement in 1984. In her later part time working years, Patricia supply taught in the Kitchener Catholic Schools and welcomed many newcomers to Canada as an English as a Second Language instructor at Waterloo Collegiate Institute and Conestoga College (Rose St. Campus). Patricia was truly a lifelong educator and a stalwart defender of the correct usage of the King's (latterly Queen's) English. As a resident of Sunnyside Home, Patricia was not averse to correcting the language or spelling of surprised staff or erasing offensive typos from the daily recreational notice boards on her home floor. For Patricia (McGarry) Eby, the world was her classroom and its people her students. At Patricia's request, there will be no funeral home visitation. Cremation has taken place. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Fr. Peter Meyer at St. Anne's Catholic Church, 268 East Ave., on Thursday, April 30, 2015 at 11 a.m. followed by a reception in the church hall. Patricia's family wishes to thank the compassionate staff at Sunnyside for the exemplary level of care offered to Patricia during her time in residence there. In lieu of floral tributes, donations in Patricia's name may be made to the Sunnyside Foundation. Visit www.henrywalser.com for further details. An Irish Prayer May God grant you: For every storm, a rainbow; for every tear, a smile. For every care, a promise and a blessing in each trial. For every problem life sends, a faithful friend to share - For every sigh, a sweet song and an answer for each prayer.
