    Frederick Schartzburg

To cause a distinct shock to the municipality and to anual an anniversery of 35 years of married life that would have been celebrated this week, death stalked with tragic suddenness at 11.30 o'clock Saturday night to claim the life of Frederick Augustus Schartzburg, at his home 226 Church street, Preston. Desceased who was in his 58th year had been suffering from heart trouble for the past five months, but recently his condition was said to be greatly improved. Shortly before retiring on the Saturday, he had been chatting with friends on the verandah of his home and he is beleived to have suffered a relapse a few minutes after taking to his bed, when he passed away. He had a wide circle of friends that he acquired during his 25 year stay in Preston. His positions as caretaker of St. Paul's United church and of the Grandview school were carried out faithfully and he had always shown a willingness to assist in tasks that might arise. His work at the church which he was a devout member was commenced 22 years ago. He had taken a keen interest in the affairs of the Sunday school. Besides teaching a class of children each Sunday, he was a prominent and popular figure around the community throughout the week. He was loved by the tots at the Grandview school, where he had been the caretaker for the past 3 years. In his spare moments he played with them and taught them new games and it was not an uncommon sight to see him surrounded by a flock of children at the recess period. For 18 years he had been in the employ of Clare Bros. Ltd. of Preston. Born in Lincoln Nebraska, USA., he spent his childhood days in Brantford. His fraternal affiliations were with the Ancient Order of Forresters and the Royal Templars. Besides his widow, there survives two daughters, Mrs. R. T. Thompson, of Toronto and Miss Hazel Schartzburg, R.N. of Toronto, one son, Percy, at home, one brother, George, of Mount Pleasant and three sisters, Mrs. William Kennedy, of St. Catharines, Rosie Braugh, of St. Louis, Mo. and Lanne Newton, of Rosedale, Ind. There is one grandson, Frederick Charles Thompson, of Toronto. The funeral will be held on Tuesday afternoon at 2.30 o'clock from the late residence to the Preston Cemetery, Rev. R. M. Geiger will officiate.
