    Rev. D. H. Brand

The death occurred at his home here on Thursday night last, June 4th, of Rev. David IL Brand, at the age of 76 years. He had been confined to his home for several years through illness. The late Mr. Brand was born in Germany on October 18th. 1854, and came to Canada at the age of 6 years with his parents. He entered the Evangelical Ministry and for forty years was stationed in various places of the province. Fifteen years ago he retired and for the past thirteen years resided in New Hamburg.

He was married in 1880 to Miss Christina Eidt, of Philipsburg, who survives him besides three sons and two daughters, namely, Edward, of Philadelphia, Ezra and Clarence of Toronto, Mrs, Albert Huck, of London, and Mrs. C. Ankerman, of Gowanstown. He also leaves five grandchildren and a host of friends.

The funeral was held on Monday, June 8th, at 2 o'clock.

Many friends and relatives gathered on that afternoon to pay their last respect to Rev. D. H. Brand. More than 20 of his brethren in the ministry attended the funeral.

A short service was held at his residence after which the cortege proceeded to the Evangelical Church. Rev. H. Kellerman, of Waterloo, led in prayer and Rev. J. Litt, of Waterloo, read the scripture Lesson. The pastor, Rev. A. E. Notch, read a short obituary after which he called on Rev. J. P. Hauch, of Stratford, who in compliance with one of the last requests spoke a few words in the German language. Rev. S. R. Knechtel, a former pastor and life long friend of the deceased, was also asked to speak in English. Rev. E. Burn, Rev. W. M. Sippel and Rev..A. W. Sauer, the Ministerial trio, then rendered a most comforting selection. Music was also provided by the choir. The following acted as pallbearers: Rev. E. D. Becker, Rev. W. E. Reese, Rev. G. F. Barthel, Rev. J. Burn, Rev. C. R. Kauth and Rev. H. H. Leibold.

Following this memorial service interment was made at Riverside cemetery.
