    Burton Lloyd Myers Passes - One of Ayr's most community spirited citizens, Burton Lloyd Myers, passed away in Willett Hospital, Paris, on Monday, May 5th. He was 76. Born in Ayr, Mr. Myers was a son of the late John Myers and Margaret Rodger. The family resided, for a time on upper Northumberland Street, and then on the farm now owned by Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Baetz at Greenfield. After attending Ayr public and continuation schools and Galt high school he entered Queen's University for two years, then to university in Detroit where he graduated in electrical engineering. Following graduation he was employed by Ford Motor Company until the depression and then returned to Canada where he secured a job with Ontario Hydro. From that time until retirement twelve years ago he worked with Ontario Hydro in the north. Upon retirement Mr. Myers returned to Ayr where, he had resided ever since. Mr. Myers took an active part in lodges and minor hockey. He was a member of Ayr Masonic Lodge and Ayr Dolman Lodge I.O.O.F., being secretary of the former and having received 50 year jewels from both. Mr. Myers was a talented piano player and was called upon to play at many lodge functions. For several years he served on the executive of Ayr Minor Hockey Association. He was a member of Knox United Church, Ayr. Survived by a sister, Mrs. Lillian Myers Kilgour of London; two nieces, Mrs. D. D. (Helen) Schwoob of Waterloo and Mrs. Jack (Audrey) Wilcox of London. Funeral service will be held at 2: 00 p.m. today (Wed.) at the Wm. Kipp Funeral Home, Paris. Rev. D. E. Willis of Ayr will officiate. Interment in Ayr Cemetery.

    Death of John Myers - The death occurred at the K-W Hospital on Saturday of John J. Myers, a former well-known Greenfield resident, in his 82nd year. He had been in ill health for the past three or four months. He was born in Greenfield in the house now occupied by Adam Bechthold, a son of the late Charles Myers and Christina Kicherer. He later took over the farm where Gustave Dettmer now resides, which he operated until 12 or 13 years ago, when he removed to Simcoe to live with his daughter. He subsequently went to Kitchener, where he lived until his death. The late Mr. Myers was a valued member of Dolman Lodge, I.O.O.F., and one of the few to receive the coveted 50-year membership jewel. A hunter of some distinction, Mr. Myers was well acquainted with all the runs and trails in the district. In his younger days he had been an ardent follower of baseball and football. He was an adherent of Knox United Church, Ayr. Surviving are one son, Burton, of Pine Portage; one daughter, Mrs. Foster (Lillian) Kilgour, of Kitchener; one sister, Mrs. William Savage, Toronto; two grandchildren and one great-grandson. His wife, the former Margaret Rodger, predeceased him 18 years ago. Funeral service was held from the Schreiter-Sandrock Funeral Home, Kitchener, on Tuesday, with interment in Ayr Cemetery. The services were conducted by Rev. O. P. Hossie of Trinity United Church, Kitchener, assisted by Rev. W. D. Goodger. The pallbearers were: John Welsh, R. E. Maeder, Charles Gunn, G. S. Dalrymple, Ernest Rutherford, Galt, and Foster Rodger, Toronto.

    Mrs. John Myers - The death occurred in Galt Hospital on Monday afternoon of Margaret Jane Rodger, beloved wife of John Myers, Greenfield, after a short illness. Deceased was born on Concession 8, Blenheim township, on the old Rodger homestead, and had lived in this community practically all of her lifetime. She was a devoted member of Knox United Church, a member of the Ladies' aid Society and W.M.S., and took an active part in the different women's organizations of the congregation. She was also a member of the Women's Institute. She was highly esteemed by the members of the different organizations with which she was connected, as well as by the people of the community in general and she will be greatly missed by a host of friends. After her marriage, the family lived in Ayr for a number of years, but have resided at Greenfield for some 28 years. Besides her husband, she is survived by one son, burton at home, and one daughter, Mrs. Foster Kilgour, Simcoe; also by the following six brothers and one sister: John Rodger, Portage la Prairie; William Rodger, Edwin, Man.; James Rodger, Ayr; Andrew Rodger, Abbey, Sask.; A. E. Rodger, Admiral, Sask.; Mowat Rodger, Duval, Sask.; Mrs. James Smart, Richwood. The funeral takes place to the Ayr Cemetery this (Thursday) afternoon at 2.30 p.m.

    Death of Mrs. Mier - Another old settler, Mrs. Mier, Greenfield, passed away on Monday, at the ripe age of 76 years. She had been ill for some time with la grippe, but was recovering and suddenly succumbed to heart failure. Deceased, whose maiden name was Christine R. Kicherer, was born in Stuggart, Germany. She came to America in 1852, settling in Buffalo, N.Y., for a year or two and thence to Blenheim where she lived continuously for over half a century, most of the time being spent just across the road from where she died. Before leaving Buffalo she was married to Charles Mier, who followed the trade of stone mason and bricklayer, and who died in 1883. Mrs. Mier was a member of the Lutheran church and was well-known in Ayr and surrounding country. A family of seven children survive her. They are: Mrs. Wm. Lockie, Roseville; Miss Janet, Davie and Mrs. Alex Gunn at Essex; Mrs. John Gun at Washington; John at Greenfield, and Rose at home. A sister, Mrs. John McEwen, resides at Durham, Ont., and several other sisters are located in the States. The funeral will take place from her late residence, Greenfield, at 2 o/clock this (Thursday) afternoon to Ayr cemetery.

    Mrs. Rodger, notice of whose death was briefly mentioned last week, was born in Scotland and came to Canada at the age of about 18, locating in Blenheim, where, some seven years later, she was joined in wedlock with the late Peter Rodger. Her maiden name was Margaret Armstrong. All her life in this country she spent in Blenheim, with the exception of a few years in Ayr and Greenfield. In religion she was a staunch Presbyterian, being a consistent member of Stanley Street Church before the union, and took an intelligent interest in everything pertaining to the spiritual and moral welfare of mankind. Deceased's family comprises six sons and two daughters. They are John and William, Manitoba; James, Ayr; Andrew, Mowat and Albert, Sask.; Mrs. Jas. Smart, Richwood; Mrs. Jno. Myers, Greenfield. Three sisters and a brother also survive, viz.: Mrs. Muir and Mrs. Ross, Paris; Mrs. Wm. Reid, Australia; Thos. Armstrong, Woodstock. The late Mrs. Gourlay of Ayr was also a sister. The funeral on Friday was largely attended, interment being made in the Ayr cemetery, and Rev. J. J. Brown conducting the service. The pallbearers were six nephews - John, Robert, Peter and Alex. Gourlay, David Rodger and Robert Ross.
