    Notes:

    The family of Gord Kaufman sadly announces his death on November 23rd, 2017 in his 89th year. Gord was the beloved husband of Ruth (Robertson) for more than 67 years. He is survived by 6 children, 14 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

    Gord was a lifetime educator teaching at schools in Oxford County, Timmins, Brantford, Cobourg, and Guelph. He was a proud social democrat, active in the CCF and the NDP wherever he lived. Gord will be missed by friends and extended family. Together with Ruth, he travelled the world and never passed on an opportunity to take a spin on the dance floor.

    Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Gord's life will be held on Friday, December 8th, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. at Harcourt United Church, 87 Dean Ave., Guelph. Reception to follow.

    The Kaufman family is saddened to announce the death of Ruth Kaufman on November 29th, 2023 in her 94th year.

    Ruth was the beloved wife of the late Gordon (2017) for more than 67 years. She will be remembered and missed by their children Judith Sangster, Don (Janet), David (Mary Beckett), Barbara Hernandez (Fred), Bruce (Sonia Tyhonchuk), and Robin (Patricia Mannard). She was the proud grandmother of Tim Sangster (Jane Robertson), Kyle Sangster (Stephanie Groh), Mark (Meli), Jennifer, and Sara Kaufman (Jesse Bridge), Rebecca (Scott Reesor), Caroline (J.P. Hervieux), Ben and Amanda Kaufman (Chris Lavelle), Brenda, Bonifacio and Samuel Hernandez, Rae and Grace Kaufman. She was "Grandma Ruth" to great-grandchildren Charlie Sangster, Dawson Sangster, Zoe and Maren Bridge, Tennessee Kaufman, Levi and Maya Kaufman, Rowan, Gavin, Alden and Braxton Lavelle, and Jaciel Hernandez. Friends and extended family will miss Ruth, including brother-in-law Rev. Doug (Jean) and sister-in-law Wendy Kaufman. Ruth's son R. Mark, brother-in-law Richard Kaufman, brother John Robertson (Frances), and sisters Agnes Spencer (Harry), Ina Chalk (Bill) and Beth Hyslop (Bill) predeceased her.

    Ruth was a proud democratic socialist active in the CCF and the NDP, locally and provincially. She was a lifelong volunteer who contributed her "time, talents and treasures" to many organizations including: Amnesty International, Harcourt United Church and UCW, Waterloo Presbytery, Raging Grannies, the Guelph Community Health Centre and a credit union for teachers that she and Gord ran from their basement. Ruth maintained friendships for decades with Norma Stubbs, Mary Wray, Dorothy Fleming and members of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church's (Galt) young people's group, always referring to them as "the young people". Ruth and Gord generously opened their doors at both home and cottage \endash Kaufman's Family Circle on Georgian Bay, whether it was to host family and friends, or offer a cold drink to a stranger hiking the Bruce Trail. Ruth loved to travel \endash cruises became her favourite \endash never passing up an opportunity to take a spin on the dance floor with her beloved Gord, and taking in a sunset with a glass of dry white wine with ice cubes.

    Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Ruth's life will be held on Monday, December 11, 2023 at 11:00 am at Harcourt United Church, 87 Dean Ave., Guelph. For anyone that wishes to watch remotely can do so via YouTube using this link. Reception to follow after the service.

    William Creighton Robertson, died Friday at South Waterloo emorial Hospital in Cambridge.

    He lived at 53 Forest Rd.

    He was predeceased by his wife, the former Ann Grant.

    He is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Agnes Spencer, Ina (Mrs. William Chalk), Elizabeth (Mrs. William Hyslop), all of Cambridge and Ruth (Mrs. Gordon Kaufman) of Guelph and by one son, John of Cambridge.

    He was predeceased by four brothers, three sisters and one grandson. He is survived by 14 grandchildren and 13 great grand-children.

    Friends will be received at Coutts and Son Funeral Home, 96 St. Andrews St., Cambridge from 7 p.m. today.

    Services at the funeral home chapel Monday at 2 p.m. Internment in Mount View Cemetery.

    A memorial service under the aupices of Waterloo Lodge IOOF 107 will be held at the home Sunday at 7 p.m. Donations may be made to the charity of your choice.

    The funeral took place to the Ayr Cemetery on Thursday afternoon of the late Mrs. A. C. Kaufman of Plattsville, mother of Gordon Kaufman of Ayr. Mrs. Kaufman, whose maiden name was Elizabeth Hall, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Stauffer, Plattsville, on Tuesday. Deceased was born and had lived all her life in Blenheim township where she was highly esteemed. She is survived by the following family: Mrs. W. Hall, Mrs. D.     Demise of Mr. Geo. H. Cress

    The death took place on Sunday, Dec . 23 at 5.20 a.m., of one of the best known and most highly respected residents of Ayr in the person of George Hudson Cress, in his 60th year. The deceased, who had been ill for about six months, was born near Blair and came to this village some 40 years ago, about which time he married Hannah Wismer, who survives. He was a carpenter and builder by trade and did a good deal of work in Ayr and vicinity, in municipal and educational affairs he invariably took deep interest, being a member of the Council for 15 or 16 years and of the School Board for a shorter period. In religion he was an adherent of the Presbyterian Church and in politics a Liberal. Besides his widow, he is survived by the following family: Mrs. Blackie, Ayr; Mrs. Loree, Kitchener; Mrs. Runstetler, Preston; Bessie, Margaret and Lena, at home; Geo. A., Calgary; Jack, WoIverton; Ernest and Clarence at home. The funeral took place from his late residence, Willison street, yesterday, at 2.30 p.m., Rev. J. J. Brown conducting the service.

    Death of Mrs. George Cress

    The death occurred, suddenly, in Toronto on Friday of Mrs. George Cress, in her 64th year. Mrs. Cress had gone to Toronto on the Sunday previous, in apparent good health, to visit her daughter, Mrs. E. F. Robson, and was taken ill on Thursday. In spite of all that medical aid could do, however, her condition became steadily worse and she passed away on the following day. She was born in Woolwich Township, but had lived in Ayr for the greater part of her life. Deceased was a member Of Knox United Church and was highly esteemed by many friends. She was a good neighbor and a kind mother. She is survived by the following family: George, Calgary; Mrs. W. Dennis, Kitchener; Mrs. H. Runstedler, Preston; Mrs. R. Luce, London; Mrs. G. Kaufman, Ayr; Mrs. E. F. Robson, Toronto; Clarence, London; John and Ernest, Ayr; also two grandchildren, Edward and James Blackie, Ayr. Three brothers also survive: Joseph Wismer, Ayr; William Wismer, St. Catharines, and Ben Wismer, Kitchener. The funeral took place to the Ayr Cemetery on Monday afternoon and was largely attended. The Rev. J. W. Currie conducted the services, and the pallbearers were as follows: John, Ernest and Clarence Cress, Ira and James Loree and W. Dennis.
