    Notes:

    Anna Rapine was born in Germany on July 25, 1827. She married Peter H. Wilken in 1855 in Germany. They emigrated to Ontario, Canada in 1858. Peter died in 1860 in Canada leaving her with two small children. She then married Joseph Hoffman in 1861. They moved to Plattsmouth, Cass County, Nebraska in 1873 where Joseph died in 1875. Anna lived the rest of her life in Elmwood, Nebraska where she died on June 23, 1919.

    Anna spoke little English and would correct her grandchildren in German. In her later years, she always set in a big black leather chair mounted on wheels. One morning, she pulled herself up to the dresser and while standing up, the chair rolled out from under her and she fell sitting on the floor very hard. She broke her hip as a result and went into a coma, never regaining consciousness. She is buried in Callahan Cemetery, Elmwood, Nebraska.
