Jean was born in Mitchell, Ontario on August 2, 1924 to Gladys (née Hahn) and William Brown, the third of nine children, and grew up in Mitchell, Fergus and Elmira, Ontario. She was the beloved wife of Walter Hachborn, whom she married on September 20, 1947. Left to grieve are husband Walter; children Susan Heard (spouse David), Elizabeth Hachborn (spouse David Courtnage), and Bill Hackborn (spouse Aruna Srivastava); grandchildren Brandon (partner Kelee Wright) and Meghan Huehn, and Daniel (partner Samantha Pearson), Philip, and Beyata Hackborn; sisters Betty Gingrich, Carol Stortz, and Sandra Rohr (Clinton); sister -in-law Mary Brown; brothers Jack Brown (Helen) and Bill Brown (Joyce); sister- and brother-in-law Lorraine and Jack Mahn; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents William and Gladys Brown; father- and mother-in-law William and Florence Hachborn; brothers Clifford (in childhood) and Howard Brown; sister and brother-in-law Ruth and Wolf Fink; and brothers-in-law Cyril Stortz and Gordon Gingrich. Jean was a long-time, active member of St. James Lutheran Church, St. Jacobs, serving in many capacities, and was a member of church council at the time of her death. She also faithfully served the wider church on boards and committees, including terms on the Board of Governors of Waterloo Lutheran Seminary and the Lutheran Theological Seminary (Saskatoon), and as president of the Women's Auxiliary of Waterloo Lutheran Seminary. Jean was a respected Councilor for the Township of Woolwich from 1977 to 1988 and a member of Regional Council from 1980 to 1982. From 1950 until the birth of her first child, Jean worked with Walter as accounting manager for Hollinger Hardware, a company purchased by Walter and two other partners. Jean was a generous humanitarian, known for her philanthropy in many circles, an astute household manager, a well-read and thoughtful analyst of business and current affairs. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Dreisinger Funeral Home in Elmira on Sunday, December 28, 2014 from 2-4 p.m. and Monday, December 29, 2014 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Her funeral will be held and her life celebrated at St. James Lutheran Church in St. Jacobs on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at 11 a.m. with interment to follow at St. Matthew's Cemetery, Conestogo. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Canadian Lutheran World Relief, St. James Lutheran, St. Jacobs Endowment Fund or Woolwich Community Services.     Beloved husband of Gladys Hahn; dear father of Howard, Jack and Mrs. Cyril (Carol) Stortz, all of Elmira, Mrs. Walter (Jean) Hachborn and Mrs. Clinton (Sandra) Rohr, both of St. Jacobs, Betty Gingrich of Gimli, Man., Mrs. Wolfgang (Ruth) Fink of St. Thomas and Rev. William Brown of Eganville. Thirty-one grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren also survive. Brother of Ezra, Mrs. Alfred (Ella) Schmitt and Mrs. Marjorie Pawletzki, all of Waterloo and Harold of Erbsville.

    He was predeceased by one infant son, Clifford; three brothers and three sisters. Friends and relatives may call at the Dreisinger Funeral Home, Elmira, until Tuesday at noon, when removal will be made to St. James Lutheran Church for funeral service at 2 pm, with Rev. Howard Guse officiating. Interment at St. James Cemetery.

William Brown of Golden Lake, Ont. Thirty-one grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren also survive. Predeceased by one son, Clifford in infancy and eight brothers and sisters.

    Mrs. Brown was a lifelong member of the ELW of St. James Lutheran Church, Elmira.

    Visitation at the Dreisinger Funeral Home, Elmira, where the family will receive their friends tonight (Thursday), 7-9 p.m. and Friday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. At noon on Saturday, transfer will be made to St. James Lutheran Church, Elmira, for funeral service at 2 p.m., with Rev. Donald Stroh officiating. Interment St. James Lutheran cemetery.

    GEORGE BROWN

    ERBSVILLE, Feb. 4. - Following a lingering illness of several years duration. George Brown, age 74, passed away at the family residence here early Sunday morning. Deceased, who was bon in this village, spent practically all his life here. He was married to Mary Schierman of Durham 45 years ago.

    The widow survives with five sons, Jacob of Elmira, Ezra in Waterloo, William of Fergus, Louis of Toronto and Harold at home, five daughters, Mrs. John Zimmerman, Waterloo, Mrs. Robert Bauer, Detroit, Mrs. Al Schmidt, Elmira, Mrs. Hans Pawletzki, Erbsville and Miss Larkey Brown. One brother, Conrad of Waterloo, and two sisters, Mrs. William Easton, Waterloo, and Mrs. Henry Rahn, Tavistock, also survive.

    Funeral services will be held from the residence on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock and thence to St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Remains will be interred in the adjoining cemetery.

    ERBSVILLE, May 25 - Mrs. Mary Brown, 77, resident of Erbsville most of her life, died today in the K-W Hospital. She was born near Maryhill Sept. 28, 1872, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Scheuermann.

    She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Erbsville, and a member of the Ladies Aid of that church.

    Her husband, George, predeceased her in 1935. One son, Clayton, died in 1930.

    Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. John (Caroline) Zimmerman, Waterloo; Mrs. Robert (Edna) Bowers, Detroit; Mrs. Alfred (Ella) Schmitt, Erbsville; Mrs. William (Larkey) Rausch, Toronto; Mrs. H. (Margaret) Pawletzki, Waterloo; five sons, Jacob and William of Elmira; Louis and Ezra of Waterloo, and Harold, Erbsville; two sisters and six brothers; 33 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

    Funeral will be held Sunday at 2: 30 pm at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Erbsville, with Rev. R. Grosz officiating. The body is resting at the Dreisinger Funeral Parlor, Elmira until 12 noon Sunday, when removal will be made to the church in Erbsville.

    Mr. Conrad Brown, an Old Pioneer Passes Away at Waterloo

    An old pioneer of this county passed away at the home of his daughter Mrs. Wm. Easton, Waterloo, on Tuesday at 6 o'clock pm, in the person of Conrad Brown, after an illness of about three weeks, at the advanced age of 79 years, 4 months and 14 days.

    The late Mr. Brown was born in Germany and came to Canada when about 25 years of age, settling in Erbsville, at which place he resided for upwards of fifty years. He was married to Elizabeth Baetz who predeceased him 15 years. He had been on a visit to his daughter for the past month.

    Seven children survive, four sons and three daughters, viz., Margaret I(Mrs. E. Simpson), Durham; Elizabeth (Mrs. Wm. Easton), Waterloo; Mary (Mrs. Henry Rahn), Rumelhardt; George, Erbsville; Jacob, of near Erbsville; Conrad, West Montrose, Theodore, Waterloo. He is also survived by a brother in Mount Forrest and a sister in Germany.

    The funeral wil be held on Friday at 1 o'clock, from the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Wm. Easton to the Lutheran church, Erbsville, for service.
