    Harold L. Charles Passes

    One of Ayr's most popular residents, Harold Leslie Charles passed away in Westminster Hospital, London, on Sunday following a lengthy illness. He was in his 73rd year. He was born in Burford, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Charles. He subsequently resided in Elora, Guelph and Windsor before coming to Ayr 30 years ago. Mr. Charles was a herdsman and livery man and always retained his fondness for horses. For some years he was mail courier on Rural Route 2, Ayr. He was a veteran of World War serving overseas with the 912st Batt. of St. Thomas, and was the victim of gas which afflicted him the rest of his life. He was a member of the former Ayr Legion. Mr. Charles was always interested in municipal government and served on Ayr council for several terms. He was a member of Knox United Church. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Clair Harmer (June) of Plattsville and Mrs. Griffith Lloyd (Anna) of WillowdaIe. Four grandsons also survive. His wife, the former Edna Irene Stevenson, predeceased him in 1960. The funeral was held from the W. O. Ball Funeral Home, Swan St., this (Wednesday) afternoon, with interment in Ayr Cemetery.

    Mrs. Harold Charles

    Mrs. Harold Charles 67, of Ayr, died Friday, at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener. Born in Toronto, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Annie Stevenson. She was the former Edna Irene Stevenson. She was raised in Guelph and Windsor and was married to Harold Charles, 40 years ago. The couple moved to Ayr, 28 years ago where she became a member of Knox United Church. Survivors include her husband, two daughters, Mrs. Clare (June) Harmer of Plattsville. Mrs. Griffiths (Anna) Lloyd of Willowdale: three sisters; Mrs G. O. Best of Palmerston, Mrs. A. G. Raper of Toronto, Miss Gladys of Guelph and one brother, C. W. J. Stevenson of Ottawa. The body is at the W. 0. Ball Funeral Home, Ayr, where the funeral will be conducted, Monday, at 2: 30 p.m. Burial will be in Ayr Cemetery,
