    Fatal Accident in Waterloo

    Matthias Klahs

A serious accident took place Saturday evening in Kuntz's Brewery. Mr. Matthias Klahs, the brew-master, slipped on a spiral staircase and fell a distance of about six feet. Down below, he struck an iron pump with the back of his head, and suffered a fractured skull. Immediately, he was taken, unconscious, to the hospital, where doctors Baumann and Minchin carried out an operation. In spite of this, the severely injured patient died about midnight, without regaining consciousness.

The deceased was born in 1845 in Germany and came from Buffalo eight years ago as a brew-master to Kuntz's Brewery in Waterloo. He was married to Anna Maria Bork, who, along with eight children, survives him. The latter are: Frank, in Terre Haute, Indiana; Matthias and Geo., New York; Julius in medical school in Detroit; Mrs. John F. Stumpf, Berlin; Lillian in Buffalo and Jacob and Anna, at home.

Burial will take place in Buffalo. A funeral service in the Catholic Church in Waterloo was to take place on Wednesday, after which the body was to be taken to Buffalo for burial, but because of the snowfall, the service was put off till Thursday. The deceased was a member of
the C.M.B.A., number 24, in Buffalo.
