- Mr. Alfred W. Rhodes Passes Away, as a Result of Typhoid Fever
Many In the town of Galt, especially the young men, will learn with regret of the death of Mr. Alfred William Rhodes, eldest son of Mr. Ed. Rhodes, which took place at 10.30 o'clock, Sunday morning. The deceased passed away at his residence on Oxford street and was In the 26th year of his age. On the 17th September last, Mr. Rhodes contracted typhoid fever and through, careful nursing and the best medical attention, speedily recovered. He was growing well so rapidly that his friends expected to see him out in a few days, but on Tuesday last, a relapse occurred and the effect was so terrible as to carry away life. The deceased young man was born In London, England and when very young came to Canada, along with his parents. They settled in Galt, about 25 years ago, where they have resided ever since. The deceased, after leaving school, always worked with his father In the painting and paper hanging business and enjoyed robust health until his recent illness. Four years ago, he was married to Miss Grieve, of Preston, who survives him. Besides his parents, the late Mr. Rhodes leaves a younger brother, Charles and five sisters, all of whom reside at home, except Martha, who lives in Hamilton. The deceased young man was a well-known baseball player and was very fond of the diamond sport. Five years ago he played with the Galt club and was exceptionally clever at fielding and batting. Of late years he has not played, but his interest in the game never waned. The funeral took place on Tuesday afternoon, at 2.30 o'clock, from his late residence, Oxford street, to Mt. View cemetery.
