- ZEHR, Clara (Bast)- Passed away, peacefully, on Saturday, January 3, 2004, at Stratford General Hospital, in her 88th year. Clara resided in Poole and was born August 20, 1916 in Wellesley Township, a daughter of the late Andrew & Elizabeth (Schultz) Bast. She was a member of Maple View Mennonite Church, RR 2, Wellesley where she taught Sunday School for many years. Clara took an active interest in the lives of her 23 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was an avid gardener who enjoyed flowers and trees and spent many hours quilting. Beloved wife of Emanuel Zehr with whom she celebrated 67 years of marriage on September 23, 2003. Loving mother of Elaine of RR 1, Milverton, Reta and Alvin Wagler of RR 1, Millbank, Sadie of RR 1, Milverton, Norma and Mark Gingerich of Guatemala, Orval and Judy Zehr and Gerald and Alice Zehr, all of RR 1, Milverton. Sadly missed by her grandchildren, Cynthia and Darrell Steckle, Clare and Janice Wagler, Carol, Carrie and Catherine Wagler, James and Silvia Gingerich, Charlotte and Jonathan Kropf, Stephan and Brenda Gingerich, Sarah Gingerich, Mark Andrew Gingerich, Tricia Zehr, Marilou Zehr and fiance Nathan Erb, Rosalind, Rachel, Kristina, Carolyn, Jared and Jordan Zehr, Rodney and Yvonne Zehr, Terry and Susan Zehr, Bryan and Heidi Zehr, Tim Zehr and Julianne Zehr and great-grandchildren, Rosene, Lyndon, Dale, Janette and Brendon Steckle, Calvin, Boyd, Vernon and Renae Wagler, Andrew Gingerich, Kaitlyn Zehr, Jamin, Sawyer and Winston Zehr. Dear sister-in-law of Elmer Erb of New Hamburg. Clara was the last surviving member of the Andrew Bast family having been predeceased by brothers and sisters, Mary and Michael Erb, George and Alfretta Bast, Sam and Mary Bast, Emma and Sam Lebold, Laura and Dan Wilker, Elizabeth and John Gerber, Elvy & Elizabeth Bast and Vera Erb as well as by sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Elizabeth Bast, Lena Bast, Ervin and Verna Zehr, Idella and Dan Gerber, Verdella and Clarence Leis and Norman and Edna Zehr. Friends and relatives may call at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 7 Spencer St., Milverton today (Monday) from 7-9 p.m. and again on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. On Wednesday, January 7, 2004 at 12 noon, transfer will be made to Maple View Mennonite Church for the funeral service at 2 p.m. with Pastor Bruce Sawatsky officiating. Burial to follow in the adjoining cemetery. As expressions of sympathy donations may be made to Mennonite Air Missions, Guatemala and Stratford General Hospital.
