  • Notes
    • Anna Elizabeth Walter -- On the 9th of August 1895, near Nappanee, Ind, of the infirmities of old age, Elizabeth Hartman, widow of Justus Walter who died some 26 years ago, aged 79 years, 6 months and 13 days.

      She was born on the 26th of January 1816, in Oberkaufen, near Hesse Cassel, Germany. She was raised in the Reformed church, but after coming to America she united with the Mennonite church and has been a faithful member of the same for over 30 years.

      She was buried in the afternoon of the 11th. Services were conducted at the Brick Dunker M H by J S Lehman and J F Funk, from Matt 20:8. "Call the laborers and give them their hire."

      She leaves a number of children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to mourn her death. Peace to her ashes.

      Death has robbed us of our mother,
      Whom we loved and cherished dear,
      It was mother, yes, dear mother,
      Can we help but shed a tear?

      Yes we miss her, oh we miss her
      When we see her vacant chair,
      And how sad the room without her,
      For there is no mother there.

      Mother's work on earth is ended,
      Faithfully the cross she bore;
      Now her loving soul's ascended
      Over to fair Canaan's shore.

      She had children, six in number,
      That are left to mourn for her;
      And in our aching hearts we know
      We have no mother now.

      -Selected by her daughter Elisabeth Yoder.
