- METZGER, Florence (Mrs. Lorne) - Of Elmira, peacefully went home to be with the Lord, on Sunday, August 10, 2008, at Lisaard House, Cambridge, two weeks past her 65th birthday. Beloved wife and best friend of Lorne Metzger; dear mom of Craig and Kelly Metzger of Seaforth, Christine and Val Ruza of Elmira, and Lori and Luke Hollinger of Neustadt. Cherished gramma to Joseph, Bryan, David, Abigail, Mark, Clay, Tiadora and Nicolas. Greeting gramma in Heaven is her granddaughter, Gabrielle. Sister of Vera and David Brubacher of Elmira, Willard and Mary Ellen Martin of State College, PA, Gladys and Edward Diefenbacher of Moorefield and Marlene and Peter Kwandt of Renfrew. Predeceased by her parents, David and Adina Martin and three brothers, Clarence, Cleon and Lloyd. As a stay at home mom, Florence was involved with babysitting, neighbourhood Bible studies and church activities. She then worked for the Waterloo Region District School Board for over 20 years, most recently as a custodian at John Mahood Public School, Elmira District Secondary School and Floradale Public School. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially the grandchildren. Many happy times were had during the 38 seasons spent at the trailer at Chesley Lake Camp. Through the years, Florence was very involved with both Bible school and Sunday school. She was a charter member of Zion Mennonite Fellowship. Florence always took time to listen and understand those around her and put others ahead of herself. The family will receive friends and relatives at Floradale Mennonite Church on Wednesday, August 13 from 1-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A memorial service for family and friends will be held at Floradale Mennonite Church on Thursday, August 14 at 2 p.m. with Pastors Ken Driedger and Fred Redekop officiating. The casket will remain open in the church until 12: 45 p.m. Interment in Elmira Mennonite Cemetery. A special, heart-felt thank you to Lori (Florence's daughter), to Jane, Nancy, Heather and Miriam (Care Partner nurses), to Dr. Casey (Lisaard House doctor), to Connie, Heike, Grace, Doreen, Martha, Janna, Dianne and Rosemary (RN's and RPN's), to Jackie, Cathy, Christa, Aaron, Maureen and Natalie (PSW's) and to the rest of the staff and volunteers at Lisaard House for the excellent nursing care Florence received during her journey with cancer. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or Lisaard House would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
