      Death of an Old Employee

The Grand Trunk Railway Co. lost one of its oldest and most faithful employees on Thursday of last week, when Mr. George Cottrell, station agent at Breslau, passed away. The deceased gentleman had occupied this position for the long period of thirty-two years, having been appointed thereto upon the opening of the line in 1855. Last summer he obtained a well-earned leave of absence, and with his daughter Marion, visited old scenes and old friends in England. Shortly after his return he took a severe cold, which finally settled upon his lungs, and ultimately caused his death on the date named. IN 1862 or '63 Mr. Cottrell was united in marriage to Miss Annie Challenor, previously a resident of Galt, and his widow and a family of three sons and two daughters survive him.

The deceased was interred in Trinity church cemetery, Galt, on Sabbath last. To give employees on the road and others an opportunity of attending the funeral, the Grand Trunk Railway kindly placed a special train at the disposal of the relatives, which arrived in Galt shortly before noon. The pall-bearers were all connected with the road, and the attendance showed the esteem in which Mr. Cottrell was held. In addition to the regular burial service in the church, Rev. Mr. Ridley gave a short address in which he expressed regret at the unavoidable delay which had taken place until the regular Sunday morning service had been concluded, and asked all to take to heart the great lesson taught by these solemn events. The cortege then proceeded to the Cemetery where the services were concluded. The special train left on its return to Breslau about 2 o'clock.
