    • When the first Catholics came, and who they were, can not be told. So many came and stayed only a short time. Mr. John Gatchene, a son of Ignatius, a pioneer in St. Agatha, established a chair factory about 1844. This was burned down in 1852, rebuilt and again destroyed by fire in 1861. Mr. Joseph Schaefer, son of Carl, of Rummelhart, was one of the oldest permanent residents. Before 1850, or in that year, the following Catholics were here: Jacob Dahm, a carpenter..
