Notes |
- On the morning of New Years' Day, a horse and cutter were stolen from Mr. John Zimmermaker, who resides at Erbsville, Waterloo Township. From threats which had been used towards Mr. Z., he suspected a man by the name of Henry Miller of the theft, and finding this person absent from the place, a search was immediately instigated. Mr. Z. Got some trace of the absconding party in Wilmot, and finally was informed at Mitchell, Perth County, by a hostler belonging to one of the Inns, that a person answering the description of Miller, with what appeared to be the lost horst and cutter in his possession, had passed through the village during the afternoon. Mr. Zimmermacker followed the trail thus hit upon as far as Bayfield, but here he was completely thrown out, and had to return to Berlin, where he left orders to secure Miller if he ever returned. On Thursday night Miller did return and was immediately arrested. On the following day the hostler was brought from Mitchell, and he immediately identified the man as the one whom he had seen passing Mitchell, as detailed above. H. S. Huber, Esq., J. P. Committed the prisoner for trail at the next assizes.
