- Robert Scott McMorran was born in Hespler, Ontario, Canada on March 25, 1874. He came to Inkster, North Dakota by train in April, 1899.
In July of that same year, he filed a claim on a homestead four miles east of Lawton, North Dakota, which he farmed for nine years. He married Margaret Ann Horrocks in February 1905. She was born in Harriston, Ontario, Canada December 5, 1884, and came with her parents to North Dakota. After leaving the farm in 1909, Mr. McMorran ran the Farmer's Grain Elevator in Lawton.
From 1913 to 1915, the McMorran's lived in Derrick, North Dakota, where he managed the Farmer's Elevator. In 1915 they moved back to Lawton where he managed the Lawton Farmers Elevator until 1920. In the fall of 1919 he bought the present William McMorran farm. The family moved to the farm in 1922 after living in the Whalen house in Lawton since 1915. Mr. McMorran managed the Lawton Farmers Elevator from 1931 to 1935 and the Farmers Union Oil Company from 1937 until his retirement in 1941. They bought and made their home in the Sigurd Hagen house in Lawton.....
