ELIZA ASTOR, daughter of the late Walter Langdon and wife of Matthew Wilks. Funeral service in Canada. Interment at St. James' Church, Hyde Park.
From the New York Herald, SATURDAY, JUNE 6, 1896
The death on June 2, at Cruickston Park, Galt, Ontario, of Mrs. Matthew Wilks which removes one of the old time New Yorkers. Mrs. Wilks was a daughter of the late Walter Langdon. Years ago the Wilks mansion stood on the corner of Astor and Lafayette place, and was the scene of much gayety and many social entertainments. The old house was long ago torn down and replaced by buildings for business purposes, and Mrs. Wilks went to reside in Canada, at the old estate which was much beloved by the family Mrs. Wilks was the mother of Mr. Matthew Wilks and of Mrs. Bryan K. Stevens, ot this city. Another daughter is married to an officer of the British array stationed in Canada.
