- WAGLER, Daniel - 85, died peacefully on September 9, 2009, at Stratford General Hospital. Dan is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary Ilene (Willis); his daughter, Marie and Neil Struthers; son, Jim and Kay Wagler; daughter, Bonita Wagler; son, Brian and Diane Wagler; daughter, Darlene and Sam Birkenhead; son, Allan and Laurie Wagler; son, Ron and Michelle Wagler, and 17 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Dan is also survived by his sister, Marie and Earl Bender; sister, Vera Dyke; brother-in- law, Elmer Ropp; sister-in-law, Viola Wagler; sister, Esther and Roy Scheerer; sister, Deborah and Joe Zehr; sister, Florence and Anders Bergsma; brother and sister-in-law, Marwood and Gertrude Willis, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Omar Wagler and Norman Wagler; and two sisters, Edna Ropp and Eileen Wagler; sister-in-law, Esther Wagler; brother-in-law, John Dyke, and sister and brother-in-law, Leola and Michael Freeman. Dan was born on December 23, 1923 in Crosshill, Ontario to the late Emma (Brenneman) and Amos Wagler.
He spent his early working days building what would become the Trans Canada highway and regaled his family for years with 'we built that bridge'. He eventually moved to Stratford, Ontario where he worked for Gaffney Construction for over 30 years, retiring in 1992. Dan was a member of the Worldwide Church of God and enjoyed reading, playing Scrabble and Solo, gardening, telling a good story, listening to music and watching the Habs dominate the Leafs. Friends and relatives may call at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford on Sunday September 13th from 1-4 p.m. and on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Exeter Cemetery.
