    • WILLIAM GEORGE SCOTT 1919 - 2006 Professor Emeritus, of Waterloo, passed away of cancer, on Wednesday, October 25, 2006 at the age of 86. Son of William and Mary Agnes Scott, predeceased, both of Ulster, Ireland. Loved and cherished by his wife, Margaret (Harrison-Dove); his children, Michael and Jackie, Derek and Lorie; his grandchildren, Jessica, Adam, Samantha, Jennifer, James, Meaghan and Thomas; nieces, Susan, Janet and Joanne and great-grandson, Jack. Predeceased by his first wife, Doreen (nee Caldwell); brother, James; eldest son, Peter and grandson, Jordan. Bill completed an honors program in 1943 at the University of Western Ontario in the social sciences and further graduate studies at the University of Toronto in 1950. During the Second World War, he served as a Captain and Army Examiner in the Directorate of Personnel Selection. Bill was an Assistant Professor at Waterloo College from 1945 to 1948. From 1948 to 1960, he was Director of Industrial Relations with Electrohome, Ford Canada Overseas Division and Anthes Imperial Ltd. In 1960, Bill joined the University of Waterloo as the founding member in Sociology and served for various periods as Chairman of Economics, Political Science and Sociology. He was a strong supporter of co-op education and was the first co-op officer in the Arts faculty. Bill served as Provost, Student Affairs from 1965 to 1969. He retired from the University of Waterloo in 1985 and was installed as an Honorary Member of the University in 1986. During his residence in the K-W area, where he spent most of his adult years, Bill was active in various community groups and associations. These included the Preston Home and School Association and the Grand Valley Personnel Association; both of which awarded him life-time membership, the U.I.C. Court of Referees, the Legal Aid Committee, the Great Books Club, the YMCA Boys Work Committee, the Business Development Bank, the local Vintage Motorcycle Association and the Press Club. Honoring Bill's wishes there will be no visitation or service.
