  Man's body pulled from Victoria Park lake KITCHENER - Barry Ek lived his life as though nothing was holding him back. Not the wheelchair he used to get around Kitchener, his adopted home since his family's arrival as refugees in 1988. Not cerebral palsy, the condition that hindered his mobility and his speech but couldn't dampen his spirit. Ek was a familiar sight around town, his infectious smile well-known from the corridors of Fairview Park mall to the paths of Victoria Park. It was at the park where police divers pulled his lifeless body from the lake on Saturday morning, about 15 hours after he was last seen sitting near the water's edge. Passersby noticed his wheelchair, unoccupied, on the bank early Friday evening, and personal items floating in the water. Firefighters searched in vain that night. Ek was 40....
