- Memorial will honor city teacher
CAMBRIDGE - Students, co-workers and friends will gather Friday at Glenview Park Secondary School to remember a guidance counsellor who died Saturday after a freak December accident. Fred Robert Andersen, of Esther Avenue in Cambridge, died of head injuries at 5: 30 a.m. in Cambridge Memorial Hospital. He was 41. "It's pretty sombre; it's pretty tough going for some people around here," Glenview Park principal Tony Fieder said Monday. Mr. Anderson was walking his dog during Christmas holiday, when the animal bolted and pulled him off balance, Glenview librarian Gerry Love said. He fell and hit his head, and was treated at hospital. He went home, then returned to hospital later in January and died of complications. He was a history teacher, guidance counsellor and coached boys and girls volleyball teams. He was also coach of the hockey team from 1978 to 1981. A Cambridge native, Mr. Andersen was a 1970 Glenview graduate. He was also a member of the Galt branch of the Royal Canadian Legion, where he had served a term on the executive and was responsible for youth education. A funeral service was set for 11 a.m. today at the Corbett Funeral Home. Glenview's memorial service is set for 3 p.m. in the school's west gym.
