- SHANTZ, Mabel Arnetta (nee Zehr) Passed away peacefully on Friday, December 1, 2017 at her residence Columbia Forest Long Term Care, Waterloo. Mabel was formerly of RR#2 Petersburg and later moved to New Hamburg. She was born 89 years ago in East Zorra Township a daughter of the late Joseph B and Susanna (Brenneman) Zehr. Beloved wife of the late Willis Roi and Arley Shantz. Loving mother of Robert and wife Pat Roi of Baden, Donald and wife Anne Roi of Shallow Lake, Mary Lou Shantz of Wellesley, Susan Shantz of Courtney, B.C. Sadly missed by her grandchildren Teresa Roi and husband Rick Woodcox, Bradley Roi and partner Amanda Hodder, Jonathan Roi, Melissa Baer, Laura Baer, Daniel Baer and Katie Baer and predeceased by granddaughter Sherri Lynn Roi. Also remembered by sister Kay Sommers and sister-in-law Marilyn Zehr. Predeceased by her brothers, sisters, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; Lloyd and Grace Zehr, Oliver and Ada Zehr, Arnold and his first wife Carol Zehr, Ruby and Alvin Bender, Emma and Sydney Everett and Wes Sommers. Mabel will be missed by many nieces, nephews and friends. Mabel was a member of Wilmot Mennonite Church, Baden. She was an avid volunteer, volunteering at Nithview, Meals on Wheels, the New Hamburg Thrift Centre. She was a member of the Restless Seniors. Mabel was an avid card player and you could find her spending her time playing one of many card games or tending to her flower beds. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Family and friends may call at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 291 Huron Street, New Hamburg on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 from 2 - 4 p.m. and 6 - 8 p.m. The interment will take place on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Wilmot Mennonite Cemetery, Baden. The service to celebrate Mabel's life will take place following the interment at Wilmot Mennonite Church, Baden at 3 p.m. with Pastor Susan Allison-Jones officiating. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Wilmot Mennonite Church (Cheques Accepted).
