  • Notes
    • As briefly reported in our issue of last week, there passed away at her home on Mill Street here, on June 8th, Agnes Kenning, beloved wife of John Stark. Deceased was one of the earliest settlers in Elmira arriving here earlier than any person now living in Elmira. She was a daughter of the late Robert Kenning and was born in the county of Down, Ireland. She came to Beverly Township, Ontario, with her parents in 1837, when but seven weeks old and when she was three years old the family moved to Woolwich Township on a farm, much of which is now covered by the village of Elmira. In 1861 she was married to her now bereaved husband, Mr. John Stark. The union was blessed with four children, two of whom died in infancy. The two surviving ones are Mrs. Thomas Matthews, Elmira, and Mr. A.W. Stark, Creekbank. Several brothers also survive, some of whom were present at the funeral which took place on Wednesday of last week. A funeral service was held in the Presbyterian Church of which deceased had been a life-long and consistent member after which the remains were laid to rest in the family plot in the Elmira Union Cemetery.

The bereaved family have the sympathy of the community.
