He worked at the cheese factory situated on the lot behind the former Petro Canada station owned by Harriston Motors. Then sold to Dr. Joseph Allan, MC. He used the back part of the house for this office. Jack Ward, who had his barbershop where South Street Cafe is now located on Elora St S., lived here for over 50 years. • Notes

  ALLAN, JOSEPH was a wanderer of whose background little is known. The Dumfries Reformer of March 10, 1880 had his card: Dr. Allen, late of Fenelon Falls, has opened an office in Baden, next door to Kraus' Hotel. The Fenelon Falls Historical Society confirms that he left there in 1880 but gives no arrival date. The Ontario Medical Register lists him in Fenelon Falls 1878 and Harriston in 1882. He was subsequently listed in Osgoode and Gananoque with a possible earlier location in Metcalfe.
