- SOLOMON, Helen Mary (nee Lackenbauer) - Of Kitchener, passed away, at Etobicoke General Hospital, Toronto, on Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000, a few weeks after suffering a severe stroke. She was the beloved mother of Diane and her husband Peter Birkemoe and of Dennis and his wife JoAnne and the wonderful grandmother of Peter, Karen and Eric Birkemoe and Dennis and Sarah Solomon. She was predeceased by her husband, Douglas (Bud) Solomon; by her parents, Harryand Sarah Lackenbauer and by her brothers, Roy, Leo and Edgar. Helen was a longtime employee of the Merchants Rubber Co. (Uniroyal). She was a lifelong parishioner of Sacred Heart Parish, a member of the CWL and the Altar & Rosary Society. A memorial mass will be held on Friday, Jan. 28 at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart RC Church. Reception to follow in the church hall. Cremation has taken place. Memorial donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association, CNIB or the Canadian Red Cross would be appreciated and may be arranged through the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home, 621 King St. W., Kitchener (745-9495).
