    • Samuel E. Shantz, M. D., "was born June 11th, 1836. His boyhood days were spent on the farm and when up in his teens he was clerking in Mr. Daniel Snyder's store, Waterloo. Leaning more towards a professional life, he gave up the mercantile calling and attended the university where he in due time graduated as an M. D. He practised in St. Peter, Minnesota, U. S ., where he had received a high position from the state government. His death took place August 22nd, 1868. On May 21st, 1868, he was married to Louisa Graham. To them was born one child"
