    • A. DIX OBITUARY

May 23, 1925 - July 27, 2011 Elder daughter of the late Edward Dix and Madge Hale Dix, predeceased by sister Joy Harbin. Survived by nephew Donald Harbin and family of Oakville, and by the Anderson family of Collingwood and Toronto, Ontario. Born in Moreton, U.K., 30 miles from Liverpool, Dillys enjoyed recounting her fascinating childhood. Her mother's family ran a local hostelry called The Farmers' Arms, and her father's family ran a carpet store in Liverpool. She was educated at Upton Hall Convent School and retained many friends from those days. Dillys was employed in many places where her organizational abilities were appreciated, from army camp secretary to Lever's to medical offices. After her mother died she moved to Canada in 1961 to be near her sister and family. She worked at the Banting Institute, Toronto, for many years; and later at Mount Sinai Hospital and Toronto Western Hospital. For several years she lived in Collingwood, where she operated a small business called Secretarial Services. In later years she was Parish Secretary at St. Mary Magdalene Anglican Church on Manning Avenue in downtown Toronto. In what might be termed 'retirement'. She became Nanny to young children and then a Red Cross Homecare worker. Wherever she went, she quickly acquired a circle of good friends who will well remember her many kindnesses. Dillys spent her declining years enjoying the tranquility of St. Hilda's Towers in Toronto, and when no longer able to walk, the kindly and pleasant care at Elm Grove Living Centre. A memorial service is planned for Dillys at St. Mary Magdalene, Manning Ave, Toronto on October 4 at 11 a.m. Interment of ashes at the chapel of St. James Wilmot near New Hamburg will occur at a subsequent date. Donations in remembrance of Dillys would be appreciated by St. Hilda's, Elm Grove, and the Anglican Church of Canada. For further information elanderson@sympatico.ca
