- THE LATE HENRY JOHN GREENWOOD
Mr. Henry John Greenwood passed peacefully away on Friday morning, April 17th, 1914 at the residence of his son Mr. Richard Greenwood, Moorefield. He was born in Yorkshire, England in the year 1826, came to Canada with his parents when two years of age. They settled on a farm near Wellesley village. When a young man about twenty-one years of age he came to Maryborough township and took up a bush farm, before there was a tree cut on it or even surveyed. When surveyed it was lot No. 11, 5th concession. When there about three years he married Miss Rosetta Rolls, who proved a devoted and industrious wife. By industry and perseverance they cleared their farm and put up good buildings To them was born six sons and four daughters, of whom seven survive as follows: -George and John, Manitoba, Herbert, Mrs. Sherwood, and Mrs. Babe in British Columbia; Mrs. John McKay and Richard, Moorefield deceased; James, William and Mary. After living on the farm for forty-seven years they retired, moving to Moorefield in 1894 where, they enjoyed retired life until 1903, when he sustained a severe loss, his beloved partner being called to her reward. Since that time he lived with his son Richard. He was of a quiet unassuming disposition., a good neighbor and highly respected by all. The funeral took place, on Sunday afternoon, an appropriate service being conducted by Rev. L. Perrin B. A., in the Presbyterian church of which he was a member. A large number gathered to pay their last respects to one highly esteemed.
The pall bearers were: Wm. Colquhoun, Wm., Long, R. C. Bain, WM. Hammond, Alexander Forrest and Thomas Kincade.
