    • SHANTZ, Marlene Idella (Bast) Passed away surrounded by the love and support of her family on Tuesday, November 12, 2019 at Parkwood Mennonite Home, Waterloo. Marlene was born 77 years ago, a daughter of the late Allan and Barbara (Lichti) Bast. Beloved wife and best friend of Clare Shantz. Cherished mother and grandmother of Becky (Gary) Malcolm and their sons Jonathan and Daniel; and Melanie Shantz and her boys Leelind and Jonah Keary. Marlene leaves to mourn her brothers-in-law Ralph (Dorothy) Shantz, Harold (Judy) Shantz, sisters-in-law Marilyn (Lawrence) Martin and Doreen (Don) Snyder. Marlene is predeceased by her sister Elaine Bast and brother Ralph Bast. Survived by her many nieces and nephews. Marlene was a very passionate lady, with much love and care for her family. Marlene enjoyed her many years as a hair dresser where she gained a strong connection to her clients who would soon become friends. Marlene had a passion for quilting, cooking and baking, and enjoyed the many activities her and Clare would be a part of in the Morningside Community. She will be dearly missed by all her friends. Marlene was a member of Shantz Mennonite Church. Relatives and friends are invited to a memorial visitation at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 291 Huron Street, New Hamburg, on Friday, November 15, 2019 from 3 - 8 p.m. The Memorial service will take place at Shantz Mennonite Church, 2473 Erbs Road, Baden on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastors Don Penner and Glenda Ribey Rozomiak officiating. Interment in the Shantz Mennonite Church Cemetery at a later date. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Progressive Supranuclear Palsy Foundation (PSP) or Mennonite Central Committee would be appreciated. (Cheques Accepted). A special thank you to the nurses and staff at the Parkwood Mennonite Home for the kind, compassionate care given to Marlene while she was there.
