George served from 1941-1945 in the RCEME of the Canadian Army during the Second World War and returned to marry his longtime sweetheart. George worked as an auto mechanic for 18 years after which he went on to teach at Preston High School for 17 years. Many Preston drivers can attest to his patience and skill that he imparted in his driver training courses during his duration at PHS.
