Notes |
- HAY, HENRY ROBERT was born in Listowel, a son of Thomas E, Hay. He graduated from the Medical Faculty of Victoria University in 1887. Before coming to this county he had practised elsewhere, possibly in Hanover.
His introduction to Elmira is mentioned in the Waterloo County Chronicle of November 22, 1894. He had purchased the practice of Dr. L. F. Cline, and referring to the newcomer the item says: "Dr. Hay comes well recommended and will doubtless secure a liberal patronage."
He presumably lived up to their expectations, and practised in Elmira until May, 1901, during this time he was a member of the first board of Trade of Elmira.
The Wellesley Maple Leaf of April 18, 1901, in announcing that he was leaving said that he had sold his practice and intended taking postgraduate work.
During the Great War he served overseas in the Imperial and Canadian forces. On his return to Canada he practised in Wiarton, where he was Medical Officer of Health. He retired in 1938, and died on August 21, 1939 in his 74th. year.
