- Miss Jessie Gourlay Passes - A former Ayr resident, Miss Jessie Gourlay, passed away Sunday at Riverside Hospital, Ottawa, following a brief illness. She was in her 84th year. Miss Gourlay was a resident of Ayr until about two years ago when she moved to Ottawa to reside with her nephew, Major and Mrs. J. W. Gourlay and family. Born on the 9th Concession of Blenheim (Little Egypt), she was a daughter of the late Andrew Gourlay and Jane Armstrong. She was one of a family of 15 children. She received her education at the Townline School. Miss Gourlay lived in Ayr for the most part of her life, for many years she resided with her mother on Swan Street. Following her mother's death, she lived with the Alex Gourlay family on Piper Street, until moving to Ottawa. Miss Gourlay was a member of Knox United Church, Ayr. She was a valued member of various local organizations. She was a member of the Women's Missionary Society and the Hospital Aid, while they were active. She was also a life member of the United Church Women. Surviving are one sister, Mrs. Mary Rose Boddy, of La Pas, Man., and several nieces and nephews including Miss Mary Jane Gourlay of Beamsville, formerly of Ayr. Among others, she was predeceased by brothers Alex and Peter, both of Ayr, within the last five years. Funeral service was held Wednesday (today) from the W. O. Ball Funeral Home, Ayr. Rev. D. E. Willis officiated. Interment in Ayr Cemetery.
