| Notes |
- Four Sons, One Daughter And 2 Sons-in-Law Serve
Mr. and Mrs. Leo Strub, 58 Albert St. S., have a big stake in this war. They could boast of three boys in the army, a son in the navy, a daughter in the air force, one son in-law in the air force and another son-in-law in the army. But they don't boast. They simply go on from day to day, hoping the boys will be all right, and that they can all be together before long, when the business of war is finished.
Pte. Edwin Strub, the eldest, was recently reported wounded in the thigh while serving in France with a rifle unit. His wife, Mrs. Emma Strub, and two small children, live in Regina. Edwin was a salesman before he enlisted in August, 1940. He has served overseas about a year.
Lance-Cpl. Joe, 23, is believed by his wife, Doris, to be serving in England. Some time ago he suffered a broken collarbone in a motorcycle accident. After spending a number of weeks in a convalescent hospital, the dispatch-rider was sent to a holding unit for further posting. He was an employee of the Dominion Truck Equipment Co. Ltd., before enlisting Sept. 13, 1940. He went overseas July 27, 1941 with the Signal Corps. His daughter, Leona, whom he has never seen, was born shortly after he arrived in England.
Pte. Harold Strub, who is 22, is believed to be serving somewhere in England with a medical corps. He has been overseas two years, and
was a factory worker before enlisting.
AW. Rita Strub follows Harold in age. She is stationed at Lachine, Que. Her husband is Lance-Cpl. James McKee, R.C.A., who has been fighting wherever Canadians have been in action since the beginning of the war. He was in the thick of it at Dieppe, then Sicily, before pitching into the Battle of Italy. When last heard from, he was in the latter country.
Stoker Eugene Strub, 20, who serves with the R.C.N.V.R., has been stationed on the east coast several years. He worked in a shoe factory before becoming a tar.
Cpl. Edgar C. Reist, another soldier son-in-law, married the former Irene Strub. He returned from overseas, where he served with a medical unit, in June. He is at present stationed in London, Ont.
Tony, Loretta and Cecilia are too young to enlist, but all three are working, doing their share in the civilian effort. Virginia, 12, and Wilfred, seven, find school work occupies the greater part of their time.
