- KROETSCH, Katherine (nee Beckberger) "Kay" - Passed away peacefully, with family by her side, at the Columbia Forest Long Term Care Centre. Kay, a gracious, caring woman who enjoyed being a wife, mother and friend made her transition to eternal life Saturday, April 12, 2008. She experienced 90 years of loving and being loved by her family and friends. Kay, born in Trout Creek, Ontario, lived most of her life in Kitchener as a faithful and active member of St. Anne's and St. Mary's Parishes. She participated as Minister of the Eucharist and was a member of the Catholic Women's League. In her early years, Kay served several lawyers and businesses as legal secretary and bookkeeper; most recently with John Shannon. Devoted wife of the late Elmer Kroetsch (March, 2003). Caring second mother of Patricia (Gerald) Grundy, Kenneth (Danièle), Daniel (Judy), Rosemary (Gordon) Pitts, Joanne (Siegfried) Giebat, Stephen (Catherine) and Vincent (Lydia). Proud grandmother of Carolyn (Mike) Laurie, David (Dana) Grundy, Robert Grundy, Nicholas, Frédéric, Stéphane, Sébastien, Sophie, David, Derek, Kathleen, Shawn and Paul Kroetsch, Claire (Craig) Anderson, Christa (Robin) Dietrich, Matthew Pitts and Christopher and Rebecca Giebat. Special great-grandmother of Elizabeth and Christine Laurie, Magdalena Catella, Cohen Grundy and Olivia and Emma Dietrich. Kay's parents, Paul and Irene (Kroetsch) Beckberger; step-father, George Becker and granddaughters, Monica Grundy and Sarah Grundy-Misselbrook have predeceased her. Victoria Place Retirement Residence had been Kay's home from November 2004 until January 2008. Her closing months have been at Columbia Forest Long Term Care Centre. A very warm thank you to the staff and friends at both residences for their special care and loving support. Kay's family will receive relatives and friends at the Henry Walser Funeral Home , 507 Frederick St., Kitchener, 519-749-8467 on Wednesday, April 16, 2008 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Evening prayer service at 8: 30 p.m. Family prayers will be held in the funeral home chapel on Thursday, April 17 at 9: 50 a.m. followed by procession to St. Mary's RC Church (56 Duke St., Kitchener) for Kay's Mass of Christian Burial at 10: 30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Food for Children or St. Mary's RC Church would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home).
