  • Notes
    • GHENT, Alice Effie (1922 - 2007) ... and now she's perfect! Our 'ever-lovin' wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother Alice (Brown) Ghent graduated to heaven to be with her Lord on October 13, 2007 (bless her heart, soul, and liver!). Cherished, patient, fruitful and witty wife of 61 years to Harold Ghent. Loving mother of Jo Ann (Martin) Brown of Cambridge; Dawn (John) Powell of Kelowna; John (Janice) of Oakville; Doug (Sharon) of Petersburg; Hugh (Claire) of Deep River; Paul (Liz) of Santa Clotilde, Peru; Nancy (JeanPierre) Snyers of Belgium and Barbie (John) Vlasov of St. George. Precious grandmother of 27 and great-grandmother of 12. Sister of Patrick and Bill Brown of Alberta. Predeceased by her brother, Jim Brown and her two grandsons in infancy, Trevor and Shawn Brown. Alice lived in Ayr for 50 years. She worked alongside her husband at Ghent's Home Hardware, Preston for many years. Mom and Dad volunteered for 8 years at the Roblialto Orphanage in Costa Rica, where she claimed to be the best sewer of zippers in little boys pants in all of Central America. She was a member of both Maranatha Baptist Church in Paris, Ontario and Forward Baptist Church in Galt. Mom was an avid, award-winning quilter with the St. George Quilters Guild and her grandchildren are the proud recipients. As well, she was a gifted artist who painted on barn board (among other mediums) and wrote beautiful poetry. We shall miss her homemade potato soup and apple-elderberry pie! Mom had a heart for other moms of large families as well as single moms, frequently requesting and receiving bags full of clothes requiring mending. Mom was the patient, kind, wise and generous woman of whom Proverbs 31 speaks. She loved to teach younger women about her Lord and her favourite pastime was studying the Bible with them. We shall always remember her open Bible at the kitchen table or beside the telephone, ready to comfort and encourage. Friends will be received at Forward Baptist Church, 455 Myers Rd, Cambridge on Monday, October 15, 2007 from 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday from 1-2 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to Focus on the Family. ' Give her the reward she has earned, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate. ' Proverbs 31: 31
