Notes |
- William Rutherford Wallace Passes
William Rutherford Wallace, RR 1, Ayr, died early Sunday at Sunnybrook Hospital, Toronto. Mr. Wallace was born in Ayr and had been a North Dumfries Township farmer most of his life. On October 29 he was the first man to declare himself in the running for the Hespeler-North Dumfries-Ayr seat on the new board of education for the County of Waterloo. A short time later Mr. Wallace took ill and did not qualify when nominations were held on November 18. Early last week Mr. Wallace became more seriously ill and was removed to Sunnybrook Hospital for special treatment.
School Trustee
Mr. Wallace had served for 14 years as a school trustee in North Dumfries Township and his sudden illness and death came as a shock to many friends in the district. Trustee Wallace served for 10 years on the Greenfield public school board. When it was abolished in favor of larger township boards in 1964 he was elected to the new North Dumfries Township Area School Board. He was elected for a two-year term in 1965 and headed the polls in 1967 in a three-way race for two seats. Mr. Wallace was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Wallace and had been active in community affairs. He was a member and elder of Knox United Church. Surviving are his wife the former Isobel Harbottle of Valens; three daughters, Linda, Diane and Sheli, and one son, Keith, all at home, and one sister, Mrs. Hector (Jeannette) Kyle of Ayr.
The Funeral
Funeral service was held today (Wednesday) from Knox United Church with Rev. D. F. Willis officiating. Interment was in Ayr Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Cameron Edgar, Alex Edgar and Warren Vincent, Ayr; Peter McDonald, Bright; Russell Williamson, London, and Emanuel Heintz, RR 1, Ayr.
